CAMBRIDGE, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--GNS Healthcare (GNS), a leading provider of big data analytics in health care, today announced the appointment of Dr. Jan Berger to its board of directors. Berger, who served CVS Caremark as chief clinical officer for nearly 10 years, is an internationally recognized expert in medication adherence and value-based health care. She is currently president and CEO of Health Intelligence Partners, a consultancy providing business strategies and solutions to clients across the care continuum.
“Jan’s life’s work aligns directly with our company’s mission, and we welcome her to our board during a period of tremendous growth for GNS,” said Colin Hill, CEO and co-founder of GNS. “We recently launched the Meaningful Adherence™ solution to help health plans optimize medication adherence interventions, and in June, a study based on our work with Aetna to predict individuals’ risks of developing metabolic syndrome was published by The American Journal of Managed Care. Jan’s expertise, as well as her extensive operational and business development experience, will be of great value to GNS as we take the personalization of health care to the next level.”
During her tenure at CVS Caremark, Berger led a range of programs in support of good medication practices. In that role, Berger became one of the first managed care executives to research, champion and address medication adherence, advocating for the value of drug therapies and adherence as a long-term strategy to improve health and contain spending. She was also a member of the management team that led CVS Caremark through a series of mergers and acquisitions, resulting in an $80 billion Fortune 20 company.
As chief medical officer at Silverlink Communications, a provider of engagement management solutions, Berger used highly personalized communications to close important gaps in care related to medication adherence, health screenings, hospital readmissions, influenza vaccinations and many others.
Berger has served numerous organizations as a board member, including RxAnte, a health care predictive analytics and technology company focused on medication adherence, and CareCore National, a leading provider of specialty benefits management services to managed care organizations, self-insured entities and risk-bearing provider organizations.
“I am a firm believer in the GNS mission to harness and leverage a variety of ‘big data’ to gain important insights that have the potential to save lives and reduce costs across health care,” said Berger. “In partnership with Colin and the other members of the board, I look forward to helping guide GNS strategy moving forward.”
Berger earned a medical degree and a Master’s in health law from Loyola University in Chicago. She holds a Six Sigma Black Belt awarded by the American Society of Quality and is an assistant professor at Northwestern University School of Medicine in Chicago.
