Cambrian Innovation Selected as 2015 Technology Pioneer by World Economic Forum

Award validates innovative bioelectric solution addressing global water crisis

BOSTON--()--Cambrian Innovation, a water and bioenergy technology provider today announced that it has been named a 2015 Technology Pioneer by the World Economic Forum. Cambrian Innovation is the only company with a solution for the growing global water crisis selected for this year’s prestigious distinction, honoring the most innovative technology companies across a wide range of industries.

“Cambrian’s selection as a 2015 World Economic Forum Technology Pioneer provides an unparalleled opportunity to collaborate with technology innovators from all over the world,” said Cambrian Innovation CEO Matthew Silver. “Our passionate team has developed a novel solution that can make a meaningful impact on one of the most pressing challenges of our generation—access to clean water. We’re honored that the World Economic Forum has recognized our progress and hope it will spur the innovation of more advanced water technologies worldwide.”

Cambrian Innovation has developed a solution that reduces the cost and energy requirements of sustainably managing water resources. Unlike any water technology currently on the market, Cambrian uniquely employs a bioelectric technology to cost-effectively clean wastewater by generating significant clean energy in the process. The company’s flagship product EcoVolt is deployed at industrial facilities and can reduce biological oxygen demand by up to 90 percent, while generating more than 50 percent of facilities’ electricity needs. Treated water can later be reused on-site, dramatically reducing freshwater requirements and enabling water-intensive businesses to grow.

Each year since 2000 the World Economic Forum celebrates the power of technology and innovation by awarding companies on the cutting edge of their industries with the distinction of Technology Pioneers. Past winners, including Nest, Dropbox, Spotify and Google, have demonstrated the ability to harness creativity to design and create transformative solutions. This year, Cambrian Innovation will join World Economic Forum Technology Pioneers ranging from low-cost computing to off-grid electricity.

The 2015 World Economic Forum Technology Pioneers will be honored during the Annual Meeting of the New Champions 2014, which will take place from September 10 to 12 in Tianjin, People’s Republic of China. The event, celebrating science, technology, innovation and entrepreneurship, will bring together more than 1,500 leaders from business, government and research from more than 90 countries.

“The impact of technology continues to accelerate in all domains of society,” said Fulvia Montresor, Director, Head of Technology Pioneers at the World Economic Forum. “To better understand the breadth and depth of this impact, CEOs and other leaders have come to depend on their interactions with the Technology Pioneers and their diverse and innovative solutions.”
