Madame Tussauds San Francisco and The San Francisco Dungeon Officially Opens in North America

The Bay Area Welcomes Two New Attractions to Its Historic Fisherman’s Wharf

SAN FRANCISCO--()--Today, Merlin Entertainments Group, the leading name in location-based family entertainment, has officially opened Madame Tussauds and The San Francisco Dungeon, its two newest attractions in San Francisco’s vibrant and historic Fisherman’s Wharf. Pairing the iconic Madame Tussauds attraction that has fascinated millions, with the first-ever Dungeon in North America, Merlin looks to entertain visitors with an entirely new experience.

“The Bay Area’s dynamic energy and wild history make this city the logical location to expand our brands. We are thrilled to bring Madame Tussauds and The San Francisco Dungeon to the welcoming community of Fisherman’s Wharf,” enthused James Burleigh, Divisional Director of Merlin Entertainments. “We not only want to capture the spirit of the Bay Area and make it fun, but we also strive to bring an immersive experience for every visitor that walks through our doors by having them be part of the attraction. Therefore, guests are involved in the theatrical action with The San Francisco Dungeon and are able to touch the figures at Madame Tussauds. We wanted to create a uniquely memorable experience.”

Madame Tussauds allows guests to get up-close-and-personal with their favorite stars, including musicians, actors, athletes and politicians. This family attraction provides visitors a fun, interactive experience with figures that take months to design and complete. As with all Madame Tussauds attractions, there are no ropes or barriers so visitors are able to examine the incredible details and artistry of these intricate, lifelike figures.

The attraction also features San Francisco’s most loved figures and landmarks in a special “Spirit of San Francisco” room, where the likes of Mark Zuckerberg and Harvey Milk will be on display in a themed setting. Located next to Madame Tussauds is its sister attraction, The San Francisco Dungeon. The Dungeon originated in London, expanded throughout Europe and is now opening as the first of its kind in North America. This attraction captivates its audience with edgy humor and scary, fun antics.

The San Francisco Dungeon brings to life the stories of the old Bay Area with a full theatrical cast, special effects, gripping storytelling, 360-degree sets and an underground boat ride. The San Francisco Dungeon is the ultimate live action journey through the Bay Area’s murky past where the audience is part of the show. Visitors get a full picture of the area’s history in a way that playfully startles nerves, awakens the senses and rattles the funny bone.
