RealD Issues Statement Regarding Misrepresentations and Misleading Claims Made by Volfoni

LOS ANGELES--()--Global 3D and visual technology company RealD Inc. (NYSE: RLD) has issued a statement to correct misinformation and to clarify misrepresentations made in a press release regarding the RealD XL Cinema System intellectual property rights and RealD’s decision to dismiss the U.S. patent lawsuit against Volfoni in the United States District Court for the Central District of California.

RealD made the decision to dismiss the U.S. patent lawsuit against Volfoni without prejudice only after Volfoni made specific representations and warranties that it had not sold or distributed, and is not selling or distributing, the Smart Diamond Crystal product in the United States which RealD believes infringes its US patents. In the event Volfoni’s representations are false or Volfoni begins selling the Smart Diamond Crystal product or any modified version of that product in the United States, RealD has reserved the right to continue the suit against Volfoni in the same court, at the company’s discretion.

RealD maintains an extensive patent portfolio connected to its XL Cinema System product line in numerous international markets, including the United States, Europe, China, Japan, S. Korea, Australia, Brazil, Canada, India, Mexico and Russia, and intends to vigorously enforce its international intellectual property rights for all RealD products in order to stop copying and unlicensed use of its inventions by others.

With intellectual property dating back to 2006, the RealD XL Cinema System was introduced in 2008 and today is the world’s most widely used 3D cinema projection technology with more than 15,000 units installed around the world. The XL Cinema System delivers twice the light efficiency of any other 3D cinema projection technology, and as a result, it provides a superior projected 3D image at a lower operating cost.

The world’s most widely used 3D cinema technology, RealD 3D is installed in approximately 25,200 auditoriums by approximately 1,000 exhibitors in 74 countries around the world.
