SAN FRANCISCO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Pantheon [www.getpantheon.com], the website platform for professional developers, designers, and marketers, today announced their $21.5 million in Series B financing led by Scale Venture Partners (ScaleVP) with participation from OpenView Partners and existing investors Foundry Group and First Round Capital. As part of the funding round, Rory O’Driscoll, Partner at ScaleVP will join the board of directors.
Pantheon’s professional website platform supports the two leading open-source content management systems (CMS) for business websites--WordPress and Drupal, which power over 50% of all CMS-powered websites today. This round of funding will primarily invest in product development and accelerating growth.
“The era of website hosting is over, website development workflow killed it. Professional website developers need deployment, collaboration, and scaling tools from the start,” said Zack Rosen, CEO and co-founder of Pantheon. “With ScaleVP and OpenView on board, we are well positioned to reach our goal of powering 30% of the web.”
Founded in 2010, Pantheon is the leading website platform for professional website developers, designers, and marketers. It helps solve the problems inherent in traditional hosting, including website outages, inability to handle large traffic spikes, security, team management, version control, and deployment. Pantheon brings websites into the modern era of SaaS. Over 65,000 websites, some doing over 100 million pageviews a day, use Pantheon, alleviating all of the common problems that plague websites using traditional hosting.
“The single most important asset for every marketing department is the website but the current process for building, launching and running a website is a mess,” said Rory O’Driscoll, Partner at Scale Venture Partners. “Pantheon gets everyone on the same page to launch the website on time, and on budget. They are serving a massive horizontal market and I am excited to be working with them.”
“Websites are the primary digital marketing investment most companies make, yet 20 years after the availability of the first commercial websites, the offerings on the market are still very rudimentary,” said Dev Ittycheria, OpenView managing director. “OpenView spent a lot of time looking for the right team to bring websites to the modern era of SaaS. That team is Pantheon.”
Building on its growth and momentum, Pantheon will use the financing to continue to innovate its website platform, scale its platform internationally, and double down on its go-to-market expansion strategy. The company has raised $28.8 million to date.
Pantheon’s largest customers serve hundreds of millions of page-views in a single day, making Pantheon the single largest website platform for Drupal and WordPress.
Pantheon is used by some of the most sophisticated organizations including Intel, Cisco, A&E Networks, The New Republic, Arizona State University and the United Nations.
