Barlow Respiratory Hospital to Celebrate Rich History and Strong Future with The Barlow Express Gala

Honorees include Steven Dubinett, M.D., and Suzanne and the late Fred Rheinstein

LOS ANGELES--()--One of only five institutions in the country devoted exclusively to respiratory research, diagnosis, and care of critically ill patients, Barlow Respiratory Hospital (BRH) will be celebrating 112 years of exceptional service to the Los Angeles community. BRH is affirming its commitment to the future with a glamorous gala on Saturday, February 22, 2014 at 6 p.m. The gala is being held at the historic Union Station in downtown Los Angeles. Proceeds from the evening will be put toward the capital campaign to build a new state-of-the-art hospital and acute-care campus.

Actress and Author, Beverly Sassoon will serve as The Barlow Express evening’s emcee, and Deana Martin, internationally renowned singer and daughter of the legendary Dean Martin, will perform with her quintet at this 1930s art deco era themed event. Many high profile members from the business, medical, nonprofit, government, and entertainment communities are expected to be in attendance.

Honorary committee Chairs for The Barlow Express gala are Drs. Andrea & David Feinberg and Ambassador and Mrs. John Gavin.

BRH will be honoring three significant individuals. The Medical Research Award will be presented to Dr. Steven Dubinett of the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA for his groundbreaking research in the area of lung cancer and for his leadership in translational science. The Community Builder and Entrepreneur Award will be presented to author & business owner Suzanne Rheinstein in honor of the work and community leadership that she and her husband, the late Fred Rheinstein, have demonstrated for decades.

“The event is a wonderful opportunity to launch Barlow Respiratory Hospital into the 21st Century by celebrating our next venture – developing a state-of-the-art healthcare facility and residential community,” said Chief Executive Officer Margaret Crane. “The gala will not only bring together our community to help BRH secure its future, but also pay tribute to those special individuals who have contributed to our efforts to provide unique care to our most critical patients.”

“We are excited to pay tribute to Dr. Dubinett, Suzanne and Fred Rheinstein. The gala will also serve as an opportunity to reintroduce Barlow Respiratory Hospital to the community it cares for,” said Gala Committee Co-Chair Jennifer Diener. “We need our community to support the hospital, so Barlow can continue its mission of providing excellent, specialized care to the community for the next 100 years.”

“We are honored to serve Barlow Respiratory Hospital and are proud to ask our friends to join us in this cause. We thank you, our friends, in advance for your consideration,” said Gala Committee Co-Chair Carrie Brillstein. “I couldn’t be more proud to support and give my time to such a worthy institution.”
