TINLEY PARK, Ill.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Pete Frazier hesitated before he made the decision. He had been hosting major dance competitions and events at Chicago's premier Navy Pier, and moving to the southwest suburban Tinley Park Convention Center could have been problematic for his discriminating crowd. Instead, it turned out that The Majestic Gents made the right leap.
"We host three or four events there yearly now, it has worked out so well. The cost is more reasonable. There is plenty of free parking. Everyone has a place to stay, with the Holiday Inn and other hotels at that location. We use everything the Center offers, from coat check to buffet specials. Just off expressways, the location is convenient for regional winners flying or driving in from around the country. There are restaurants and shopping areas nearby." Frazier is also very pleased with staff service.
Most crucial for these events are the dance floor and field of vision. "The Center has the best floor available, 40' x 40', with a second floor also available for our use. Dancers can never have too much floor," he chuckles, "but this gives us ample space. No gouges, no scratches; perfect for real dancing."
For three-day competitions, the Center creates an elevated dance floor, 3 feet in the air, for excellent viewing on all sides. "It's like a boxing ring," says Frazier. "Our VIPs sit along the edge, but because of the elevation, everybody gets a good view." Two large mounted screens ensure everyone gets to see the performances.
The Center's own house lighting has the flexibility to be used as theatrical lighting during the events. "We use the brighter settings to showcase the dance floor and then dim all the other lights. It works out really well and helps keep us in budget."
Frazier's upcoming 24th Annual New Year's Eve Extravaganza will feature two separate celebrations, with house dancing in one room and Chicago-style steppin' in another. The wall between the two rooms will open to create one enormous gala, with over 2,000 people, just before midnight.
"It has worked out really well with the Center. This facility is perfect."
