AMSTERDAM & SAN FRANCISCO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--AVG Technologies N.V. (NYSE: AVG), the provider of Internet and mobile security to 172 million active users, today announced it is the headline sponsor of the Child Internet Safety Summit 2014. The Summit, which is recognized for bringing together senior advisors, government policy officials business and academic child online safety experts, will take place on July 3rd 2014 in Westminster, London.
Now in its second year, The Child Internet Safety Summit will address the threats facing children online and how these can be mitigated in the UK and across Europe. The day-long event, which will be attended by over 300 education and online safety professionals, will offer keynote sessions from industry leaders including Peter Davies, the Chief Executive Officer at the Child Exploitation and Online Protection (CEOP) and John Carr, The UK Government Advisor on Online Child Safety.
AVG Technologies will deliver the opening keynote session addressing the online safety issues that have been pushed to the forefront of the news agenda in the past year and highlight where further action is needed – from parents, teachers and policy advisors – to ensure children are safeguarded online. In addition, AVG will also host a series of interactive seminars which will explore themes such as online privacy, tracking, sharing information safely and protecting personal data.
“Since sponsoring the Child Internet Safety Summit last year the online child safety debate has moved on leaps and bounds,” said Tony Anscombe, senior security evangelist at AVG Technologies. “As Government officials make steps towards making the internet a safer more regulated place for children, our main concern is ensuring that parents and education professionals understand the real world implications of these legislative changes. We are determined to guide parents through these changes and help them make sense of their child’s online world and are pleased that the Child Internet Safety Summit will give us a platform to do this.”
“Reception towards Tony Anscombe’s keynote session and AVG’s joint research report with Andy Phippen - Professor of Social Responsibility in IT at Plymouth University - was excellent this year so we are delighted that AVG has agreed to be lead sponsor of the Child Internet Safety Summit 2014,” said Aisha Tilstone, Conference Director for Child Internet Safety. “As a father himself and author of online parental advice book, ‘one parent to another’, Tony Anscombe is in a great position to provide advice at the Summit.”
