Ebates.com Survey Reveals Women Get It Wrong for Father’s Day

Just like men did for Mother’s Day!

SAN FRANCISCO--()--Ebates.com, the pioneer and leader in online cash back shopping, today announced results from its annual Father’s Day shopping survey that discovered more than half of American women (54 percent) think the dad in their life wants to receive tools, while the #1 item men actually want is a gift card to their favorite store. Tools are a distant fourth on Dad’s list. Fifty two percent of American women also ranked a ticket to a sporting event as a top gift they believe dad wants for Father’s Day—a gift only 19 percent of men would actually want to receive, placing it fifth on their list.

The national survey conducted online by TNS Global on behalf of Ebates.com in May 2013 among 1,000 adults learned that dad would also like to receive clothes, followed by a smartphone/tablet. The ranking differs from last year’s 2012 Ebates.com Father’s Day survey that found men ranked a tablet or smartphone as their #1 gift of choice.

The items most popular amongst male gadget lovers were a tablet/smartphone, a video game, a camera and an Ultrabook, in that order.

The Father’s Day survey also found 31 percent of women will spend between $20 and $50 on a gift for dad—slightly more than the 28 percent of men who said they would spend that amount on mom in Ebates.com’s recent Mother’s Day survey.

These survey results follow Ebates.com’s recent findings on women’s top choices for Mother’s Day gifts. According to Ebates.com, both men and women are asking for gift cards this year – but neither of them thought that was the other’s number one choice. Men thought women wanted to receive roses (55 percent) for Mother’s Day, while the #1 gift moms actually wanted was also a gift card to their favorite store (36 percent).

“We heard the expression ‘Men are from Mars, Women are from Venus,’ but perhaps these results show that we’re all from the same planet – and we’d like to pick our own gift,” said Ebates CEO, Kevin H. Johnson. “We know our customers need help buying the right Father’s Day gift, and that dad wants something different every year. We offer cash back on all the gifts he really wants this Father’s Day, so if you’re shopping for a gift card to his favorite store, clothes, smartphone, tablet, tools, or any other gifts, Ebates.com is here to help you save.”
