UANI Calls on UK’s RSM to End Business in Iran

Accounting Campaign Continues

NEW YORK--()--Today, United Against Nuclear Iran (UANI) continued its Accounting Campaign, by calling on British accounting network RSM International to immediately end its business in Iran.

RSM openly maintains a correspondent firm in Iran, Dayarayan Auditing & Financial Services. In a 2010 company profile, Dayarayan’s client list included Iranian government bodies, energy firms, and foreign companies.

At the same time, RSM does business in the U.S. via Chicago-based member firm McGladrey LLP, which is the fifth largest accounting firm in the country.

In a letter sent to RSM executives, UANI CEO, Ambassador Mark D. Wallace, wrote:

… RSM openly maintains a correspondent firm in Iran, Dayarayan Auditing & Financial Services Firm (“Dayarayan”). In a 2010 company profile, Dayarayan’s client list included Iranian government bodies, energy firms, and foreign companies. Among these clients are many sanctioned entities, such as the Islamic Republic of Iran Shipping Lines (IRISL), the National Iranian Tanker Company (NITC), and Datak Telecom. UANI strongly believes that RSM should not enable the provision of such vital professional and financial services to the Iranian government, sanctioned entities and foreign companies in Iran at a time when the international community is working to economically isolate the regime in response to its nuclear program, support for terrorism and gross human rights violations.

RSM should also consider how its Iran business dealings could affect its extensive business in the United States. McGladrey LLP of Chicago, Illinois is the U.S.-based member firm of RSM. The firm ranks as the fifth largest professional services network in the U.S., with revenue of $1.28 billion in 2012. McGladrey also provides services directly to federal, state and local government entities in the U.S. …

UANI’s Accounting Campaign highlights the practices of international accounting networks and associations that maintain member or correspondent firms in Iran. These Iranian member and correspondent accounting firms greatly benefit from membership in these respected brand name accounting networks and associations. Iranian accounting firms commonly provide services for the Iranian government, blacklisted Iranian entities, and firms in Iran’s sanctioned oil and gas sector.

On Monday, UANI called on British accounting network Grant Thornton to immediately pull out of Iran.

In 2010, UANI pursued a successful campaign against three of the “Big Four” accounting firms reportedly active Iran. In response to UANI’s campaign, KPMG severed ties with its Iranian member firm, and PricewaterhouseCoopers and Ernst & Young informed UANI that they had previously discontinued business relationships in Iran.

UANI has requested a reply from RSM by April 3, 2013.
