ReCommunity Recycling Appoints James Devlin as Chief Executive Officer

CHARLOTTE, N.C.--()--ReCommunity, the largest pure-play recycler in the U.S., announced today the appointment of James E. Devlin as its Chief Executive Officer, effective March 4. A veteran of the waste management industry with previous experience as a CEO in waste oil collection and processing, Mr. Devlin will be focusing on developing and implementing ReCommunity’s strategy to broaden its reach within existing markets, enter into new geographic markets, and expand its product offerings.

“We’re very excited about attracting an executive of James’ caliber who has a proven track record of growing the businesses he leads. His significant relevant experience and knowledge of the recycling and recovery sector will be particularly valuable,” said Craig Cogut, Chairman of the ReCommunity Board of Directors and Managing Partner at Pegasus Capital Advisors. “The Board also appreciates the efforts by all during this transition period, and we have full confidence in the partnership that James has already forged with the entire senior management team as we look to accelerate the geographic growth of ReCommunity as well as continue to expand our waste recovery and conversion technologies.”

Mr. Devlin brings 27 years of experience in the oil recycling, waste, and logistics sectors, having most recently served as President of Heckmann Environmental Services (HES), the environmental and waste recycling solutions division of the publicly traded Heckmann Corporation. From 2008 to March 2012, Mr. Devlin served as CEO of Thermo Fluids, Inc. (now known as HES, following Heckmann’s acquisition of the company), the largest producer of fuel oil recovered from used motor oil in the Western United States. Prior to that, Mr. Devlin served as a Regional Vice President at Waste Management, a multi-billion dollar publicly traded company, where he was responsible for the $1.2 billion business unit encompassing the Southern California, the San Francisco Bay Area and Arizona.

“It is rare that you are asked to head a company that is already a leader in its industry and has a strong management team with established deep relationships with municipalities, and I truly appreciate this unique opportunity,” said Mr. Devlin. “There is power in ReCommunity’s ability to reposition waste as a strategic community resource instead of a growing liability while moving toward a zero waste society. Some of our municipal partners are already generating additional revenue, recovering community-owned resources, creating new jobs, funding budget shortfalls and reducing their carbon footprint.”

Mr. Devlin earned his B.S. degree in business administration from the University of Arkansas.
