PROVO, Utah--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Vivint, the largest home automation services company in North America, today announced it raised $1.5 million through its 2012 Vivint Gives Back Year of Service campaign. The initiative included volunteer work by nearly 3,000 Vivint employees, who donated roughly 23,00 hours of their time.
The Vivint Gives Back campaign provides hands-on service to wide-ranging communities to aid those in need. The $1.5 million was generated solely through employee contributions and Vivint corporate matches. The money was distributed to 20 different international relief organizations, including a $200,000 cash donation to The Global Poverty Project, a group dedicated to eliminating extreme poverty.
In 2012, Vivint Gives Back partnered with numerous organizations including Habitat for Humanity, the Ronald McDonald House Charities, and Tapestries of Life in several charitable ventures. In addition, Vivint employees also took part in international service projects in Ghana and Guatemala.
In Ghana, 170 Vivint employees teamed with Globe Aware to help bring clean water to 14 separate villages. The group also helped to construct wells, bathrooms, and showers. They also provided water filters, taught school classes and restored elementary schools. In Guatemala, 25 Vivint employees assisted in the construction of a hospital designed to serve 25,000 villagers in 28 rural communities.
“Many people die every day from water-born illnesses found in unclean water. Installing items as simple as water filters has far reaching benefits,” said Josh Houser, president of Vivint Gives Back. “Because of the amazing dedication of our employees, Vivint Gives Back has helped hundreds of families this year – from children who don’t have enough to eat to those who need a roof over their head and a place to call home.”
Vivint Gives Back also supported women in need by donating $40,000 to the Streets Alive organization to help build a women’s shelter in Canada. And this past summer, Vivint employees packed nearly 210,000 meals for Feed My Starving Children, a non-profit organization that provides food for needy children. The prepared meals helped to feed 575 children over the course of the year.
In December, nearly 1200 Vivint employees and executives wrapped Christmas gifts and presented them to parents and students of an elementary school in Salt Lake City where 97 percent of the families live below the poverty threshold. The effort was part of the Vivint Sub for Santa program that helped more than 2,100 kids throughout North America during the holiday season. Vivint employees donated $80,000 from their individual paychecks to shop and purchase gifts for children in need. Vivint corporate matched the employee donation dollar-for-dollar for a total Vivint contribution of $160,000 over the holiday season.
Many additional Vivint Gives Back projects already are in the planning stages for 2013, including the building of an orphanage and providing books and additional educational tools for 14 villages throughout Mexico.
