LEXINGTON, Neb.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Orthman Manufacturing Inc. has broken ground on its new, state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in Lexington, Neb. The company, which is headquartered in Lexington and specializes in the manufacture of industry-leading agricultural and industrial equipment, will create 100 new jobs in the community.
The new facility will be built by BD Construction of Kearney, Neb., on 28 acres at the Lexington Southeast Business Park. Construction is scheduled to be complete by August 2013.
Orthman President John McCoy said that the new facility will increase the company’s ability to supply its agronomy-based technology into the industry that is feeding the world.
“The added capacity will allow us to competitively supply our agronomy-based technology into the industry that is feeding the world, keeping them efficient,” McCoy said.
The new, 115,000-square-foot steel building will operate in tandem with its northeast Lexington facility. Orthman is receiving assistance on the building project through the Nebraska Advantage Act, which offers tax incentives to companies willing to expand and create new jobs.
“The agricultural economy and Orthman’s continued growth domestically provided the basic reason to invest in the new facility,” McCoy said.
Once the new plant is complete, the company will move part of its operations to the new facility. Orthman will continue to use its second facility northeast of Lexington, but has agreed to sell the city its building east of Lexington to be used as a speculative industrial building.
Lexington City Manager Joe Pepplitsch said that the project is not only a commitment from the company to improve its business, but a commitment to improve the community.
“The new facility will kick off the development of Lexington’s new business park and will provide additional opportunities for businesses and individuals across the community,” Pepplitsch said. “This is the start of many great things to come for the Lexington area.”
