NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--The wildly popular indoor cycling movement is about to become a social movement on college campuses across the country.
CYC is an indoor group cycling concept that is an intense, fun, full-body workout. Enthusiastic, world-class trainers will welcome riders of all levels as they guide them through an efficient 45 to 60 minute workout, burning up to 700 calories per class. Innovative social media apps will allow riders to track and share results, challenge each other, and offer an opportunity to give back through CYC-matched philanthropy programs.
Opening for the 2012 Fall semester in the heart of campus at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and the University of Texas-Austin, CYC will offer riders a total body experience with fast, visible results. “CYC is the culmination of what many students care about: meeting people, feeling good, having fun, relieving stress, maintaining health, and striving to reach goals,” explains CYC co-founder and CEO (and avid cyclist) Stephen Nitkin. “The late teens and early twenties are an important time to lay the foundation for an active, healthy lifestyle. This group already has an active social life. We are going to help them have a social active life.”
“I’m excited that CYC chose the University of Wisconsin as one of their launch schools,” said Barry Alvarez, legendary football coach at UW-Madison and current Director of Athletics. “The concept is unique and the location is great because it's right on campus and will be convenient and accessible for our students."
CYC features energetic music, sophisticated onboard consoles and a sleek studio environment, designed by renowned architect Glen Coben (Niketown). "We are trying to combine the spirit of fitness, movement and speed with a sense of community, channeled into a space that pulsates with energy," said Coben. The atmosphere makes CYC an attractive alternative to the large gyms one typically finds on campuses.
CYC has expansion plans in process to bring the movement to twenty different campuses over the next two years. Nitkin and co-founder Kenny Dichter, who previously founded Marquis Jet, are in discussions with IMG, the global leader in sports, fashion and media management. IMG College is the leading collegiate multimedia, marketing and licensing/brand management company in America representing more than 200 of the nation's top collegiate properties. “I have worked with the CYC management team for many years on their other business ventures,” said IMG Senior Corporate Vice President, Sandy Montag. “CYC is a great concept that we could potentially roll into our various IMG businesses in the future.”
