LUXEMBOURG--(BUSINESS WIRE)--MACH, the leading provider of cloud-based managed communication services, today announced significant traction for its Data Roaming Engine solution, with five network operators, from MEA (Middle East/Africa), APAC (Asia Pacific) and South America, signing up to it in the last quarter alone. The first such solution to market, MACH’s Data Roaming Engine revolutionises the way tarriffs can be designed and implemented, allowing mobile network operators to offer all subscribers a bespoke set of data roaming packages, and giving control of costs and flexibility of service choices back to the subscriber.
Mobile data usage has seen exponential growth in recent years, but the potential of data roaming revenue still remains untapped, with consumers choosing to find alternative ways to access data services while abroad. Concerns about ‘Bill Shock’, rigid pricing structures for consumers and complex systems to enable data roaming combine to restrict revenue growth. MACH’s own research with YouGov shows that 58 per cent of smartphone/tablet roamers do not use 3G at all when abroad. MACH’s study also shows that an additional $900M global market could be opened up in mobile data roaming simply by removing the fear of bill-shock.
Lokdeep Singh, Chief Technology Officer, MACH, commented: “The tremendous momentum MACH has achieved with its Data Roaming Engine is a validation of its vision for a new and more profitable approach to delivering data roaming services to consumers. The unique managed service solution helps mobile network operators unlock the tremendous potential of data roaming, which has failed for too long to generate the kind of revenues it undoubtedly should. By simply giving subscribers greater insight into roaming costs and being able to target them with more tailored packages, MACH’s customers are at the forefront of a new approach to mobile data monetisation.”
Delivered using MACH’s new Managed Service Delivery platform, the Data Roaming Engine is the first in MACH’s cloud-based M Serve portfolio of fast to market data monetisation solutions. It allows mobile network operators to tailor data packages to fit their subscribers’ needs. For example, operators can define data packs by the day or hour based on the requirements of the end user. Packages can be defined by the operator to fit any application allowing the consumer to create a white list of applications that they wish to use whilst roaming.
Additional capabilities allow users to define the services they use abroad: for the holidaying consumer there could be Facebook-only access, while the small business user could opt for Email-only access. The solution also allows services to be rated differently according to the end user group the operator is targeting. This allows operators to offer services highly tailored to the needs of their subscribers, driving uptake while reducing the final cost to the end user and empowering them to select the services they want to use abroad.
