ICSC and Euromonitor International to Issue Results from Global Research Study Examining International Retail Expansion at 2012 Retail Real Estate World Summit in Shanghai

Held Only Once Every Five Years, Executive Forum Hosts Foremost Visionaries from Industry, Government and Capital Markets

2012 Retail Real Estate World Summit

BERLIN--()--Today from its annual European Conference, the International Council of Shopping Centers (ICSC) reported that in conjunction with Euromonitor International, a world leader in strategy research for consumer markets, it would release findings at the Retail Real Estate World Summit from a groundbreaking multinational study that examines successful strategies for global retail expansion into new markets. In addition, the ICSC also announced significant speaker additions to the World Summit agenda, which will be held September 11-14, 2012 in Shanghai, China.

To be authored by Jon Wright, global head of retailing research for Euromonitor, the report will investigate which retailers have internationalized successfully, and which unsuccessfully, while also forecasting where further growth is likely to come from in terms of markets and retailing formats.

“Retailers and brands across the globe are realizing the importance of growing sales in new markets worldwide, especially as developed markets remain focused on management of current assets,” Wright said “However, not every channel or brand has globalized to the same degree. For example, home improvement stores have established a limited presence internationally, while a number of apparel retailers have solidified their presence in a wide range of markets in 2012.”

“We are both eager and honored to participate in the World Summit, as it truly is an ideal platform for addressing the globalization of retail,” added Wright.

The Retail Real Estate World Summit (www.ICSC.org/2012RWS) is an open forum designed to address and shape the critical role and socio-economic impact of the worldwide retail property market.

Additions to the speaker lineup and agenda include:

  • Byron Wien, Vice Chairman, Blackstone Advisory Partners
  • Barbara Somogyiova, Director of International Expansion, List Fashion Group S.p.A
  • Xavier Lopez-Ancona, President, Kidzania
  • Bernard Vincent O. Dy, EVP & Member of the Management Committee, Ayala Land, Inc.
  • Guy Bradley, CEO - Mainland China, Swire Properties
  • Keith J. Sellars, SVP for Development and Retail, Washington D.C. Economic Partnership

Michael P. Kercheval, president and CEO of ICSC, commented that, “held only once every five years, the World Summit is the sole event where industry, political and financial leaders gather to discuss the most critical issues affecting retail real estate and the worldwide economy. We are honored to have more than 60 of the world’s brightest minds join us in Shanghai.”
