RESTON, Va.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Environmental and sustainability consultancy, WSP Environment & Energy is pleased to announce it has been selected to receive the highest honor, a Gold Award in the Consulting & Engineering: Climate Change Practice category from the Climate Change Business Journal® (CCBJ) as well as an Industry Leadership award and a Project Merit award from the Environmental Business Journal® (EBJ). The CCBJ and EBJ, published by EBI Inc., are distinguished business research publications which provide high value strategic business intelligence to the climate change industry and the environmental industry, respectively. The awards will be presented at a special ceremony at the Environmental Industry Summit X in Coronado, California; an annual three-day event hosted by EBI Inc beginning on March 14, 2012.
The submission that achieved the Gold Award for Climate Change Practice showcases WSP’s position as one of the world’s leading advisors on sustainability and climate change issues. The submission states that in 2011, WSP was reappointed as an accredited provider to the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP), the premier reporting program for corporate greenhouse gas emissions, water use and climate change strategies. The partnership with CDP has been a tremendous success and WSP was pleased to see the strong performance of clients highlighted in CDP's 2011 Global 500 and S&P 500 reports. The average disclosure score of WSP's 2011 CDP clients was 86, while the average score for the S&P 500 was 62. Other elements contributing to the award recognition include WSP’s climate change risk assessment and adaptation work delivered to clients as well as the substantial growth in revenue of the entire sustainability and energy practice area in the USA.
Additionally, WSP will be honored at the Environmental Industry Summit X with two prestige awards from the EBJ. The first is an Industry Leadership award recognizing WSP’s role in helping the information and communication technology (ICT) industry quantify and demonstrate how its products and services help organizations reduce their carbon emissions, engage users on sustainability issues, and deliver financial value. The award also acknowledges WSP’s contributions to a working group of the GHG Protocol Initiative focused on the ICT sector which is publishing guidance for a common approach to calculating carbon emissions of ICT products and services in 2012.
The second award, a Project Merit award is being received for WSP’s environmental work in connection with the Flats at Atlas District development for Clark Realty Capital in Washington, D.C. WSP developed and implemented a remedial action plan that was executed during the initial construction of the 257-unit affordable luxury apartment community. This project is an important investment in the local community and will bring much needed high-quality housing to an area in Washington, D.C. that has not benefited from new residential development in many years.
Commenting on the awards, Americas Regional Manager Director, Jan Chizzonite, said: “We are thrilled to be recognized for our efforts and continued commitment to environmental and sustainability practices. These awards are a direct reflection of the depth, quality, and capabilities that our team has to offer clients. I am proud to lead a group of talented, experienced, and dedicated individuals that continually contribute to the overall success of our organization and the clients we serve.”
