UCLA Anderson IS Associates Names Princess Cruises’ President and Chief Executive Officer Alan Buckelew Executive Leader of the Year

LOS ANGELES--()--UCLA Anderson School of Management announced that it will honor Alan Buckelew, president and chief executive officer of Princess Cruises, with the 2011 IS Associates Executive Leadership Award. The award, given annually by the leading group of information technology professionals in southern California, recognizes senior executives who do an extraordinary job of leading their companies, while exploiting information technology (IT) within their organization. The award will be presented to Buckelew at the IS Associates Executive Leadership Award Dinner on November 30, 2011, at the UCLA campus.

“A well-executed corporate strategic vision that incorporates information technology provides a very clear advantage, precisely because it’s uncommon,” said Judy Olian, dean of UCLA Anderson School of Management. “Alan Buckelew has demonstrated such leadership, using IT as a key asset in growing Princess Cruises’ business.”

With a career spanning more than 30 years in the cruise industry, Buckelew, a UCLA Anderson MBA graduate (’75), has served as chief executive officer of Princess Cruises since June 2007 and as the line’s president since February 2004. As head of one of the best-known brands in the industry, Buckelew oversees a worldwide cruise and tour company featuring a fleet of 16 modern ships that sail on a diverse array of itineraries to all seven continents. Princess Cruises is part of Carnival Corporation & plc, one of the largest leisure travel companies in the world.

In addition to his role overseeing the Princess brand, Buckelew has served as chief operating officer for Cunard Line from 2004 to 2007, as part of a reorganization of that company’s operations, and currently oversees the operation of Carnival Australia – a four-ship brand based in Sydney.

“UCLA Anderson IS Associates is pleased to recognize Mr. Buckelew for integrating information technology into Princess Cruises' strategy and execution,” said Andrew Beauchamp, an IBM Business Development Executive and Chair of the 2011 Executive Leadership Award Dinner. “His deep understanding of the business as well as information technology has enabled him to focus investments in the areas that drive the biggest improvements for Princess Cruises' customers and employees.” IBM is a corporate sponsor of the event.
