HOUSTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--With its new North American distribution and technical support office now established, Oben Holding Group through its subsidiary company in Peru, Opp Film, S.A., has announced it will immediately start supplying its bi-axially oriented polypropylene (BOPP) and cast polypropylene (CPP) films to firms in Mexico, Canada and the United States. Products include standard and specialized BOPP films and CPP films in a full range of standard and custom widths and lengths including master rolls. Available in one to three layers, thicknesses range from 15 to 50 microns for the BOPP products and 18 to 150 microns for CPP film. Secondary operations include slitting and metalizing capacity of 30,000 metric tons. Production is done on tenter-process units in the company's BOPP plants located in South America. The new subsidiary, Packfilm North America, Inc., operates out of Houston, Texas with a branch office in Toronto and is led by 30-year industry veteran Steve Brandt.
"The markets and applications for BOPP and cast film products, especially in the flexible packaging area, have increased during the past few years by an average of more than seven percent annually," stated Alfredo Barreda, vice president, Opp Film. "We have experienced significant growth and based on our new investments that include two new BOPP lines, one additional CPP line and a new metalizer, we are now expanding the availability of our supply to the North American and European markets."
Founded in 1991, Opp Film is part of the Oben Holding Group and is headquartered in Lima, Peru. "Although our primary markets are in South and Central America," Barreda explained, "we export to 23 countries, and have more than 1,000 employees. We are very proud to celebrate our twentieth anniversary with the opening of our new North American operation."
The BOPP manufacturing plants of Oben Holding Group are located in Peru, Ecuador, and Argentina. Cast production is also located in Peru. The company's distribution centers are located in Brazil, Columbia, Chile, Venezuela, and El Salvador. Actual total annual capacity is some 95,000 metric tons of BOPP and some 15,000 metric tons of cast film products. "We are expanding our total capacity to 165,000 tons of BOPP by February 2012, and 35,000 tons of cast film capacity by mid-2012," Barreda stated.
Brandt said, "The most widely used film product today is BOPP due to its outstanding properties and versatility for packaging food and also for non-food items. We are seeing more and more applications moving to BOPP film from other resins. Our commodity and specialized films have excellent characteristics, including transparency, sealablity, with retention and barrier properties."
