Nuance Mobile Developer Program Brings Voice to Yellow Pages App, EZ CM Connect and CapnTrans

More New Apps Powered by Dragon Continue to Hit the Market; Program Signs More than 3,000 Developers

BURLINGTON, Mass.--()--Nuance Communications, Inc. (NASDAQ: NUAN) today announced that its Nuance Mobile Developer Program continues to successfully launch voice-enabled apps for iOS and Android, most recently the Yellow Pages app from Avantar, EZ CM Connect and CapnTrans. The Nuance Mobile Developer Program has engaged more than 3,000 iOS and Android developers looking to voice-enable their apps with the power of Dragon.

The Nuance Mobile Developer Program provides developers with access to the capability-rich Dragon Mobile SDK that features the core speech recognition technology found in the successful Dragon Apps. With the Dragon Mobile SDK, developers can fully voice-enable any app and rapidly bring it to market, even if they have never implemented speech technology before. Among the latest released include:

  • Yellow Pages: The one and only Yellow Pages app from Avantar, a sister company to Yellow Pages Directories, now lets consumers speak their local business search details, making it even faster and easier to find and access the information they need on the go – wherever they are. The Yellow Pages app also brings you business information from any where in the nation – for instance, just say “pizza in Chicago, Illinois” to get a listing of the best places in Chicago. The Yellow Pages app was rated the #1 downloaded navigation directory application in the App Store for 2010.
  • EZ CM Connect: This latest app from EZ Access allows project team members to access, review, and share, via email, key project documents created in Oracle's Primavera Contract Management. Now powered by Dragon, EZ CM Connect lets users update and edit documents just by using their voice.
  • CapnTrans: The latest version of the CapnTrans translation app from Keystone Technology now features voice recognition, so users can speak words and phrases they wish to have translated into English, Chinese, French, German, and Japanese.

“Integrating the power of Dragon into our Yellow Pages iPhone and iPad apps was an easy way for us to further differentiate our extremely popular and pioneering navigation local business search app. The Yellow Pages app is free, easier to use than the printed book, and now our users can simply speak the name of the business name, person, or phone number they’re looking for, and it instantly appears with contact information, directions based on where you are located, turn-by-turn driving navigation, and much more. Use it once and you'll wonder how you ever got along without it,” said Adrian Ochoa, President, Avantar.

“It’s inspiring to see that more than 3,000 developers have taken advantage of our self-service program to voice enable apps with the Dragon Mobile SDK,” said Matt Revis, vice president of product management and marketing, Nuance Mobile. “And the range of apps is incredible –business search, shopping, translation and work order management – showcasing that the possibilities of what voice can enable is truly endless.”

The Dragon Mobile SDK powers the voice recognition and text-to-speech capabilities of some of the most popular apps on the market, including Siri, Price Check by Amazon, Ask for iPhone, Merriam-Webster, Dictionary.com, SpeechTrans, Aisle411, AirYell, iTranslate, Taskmind and others.

Nuance’s mobile voice technology featured as part of the Dragon Mobile SDK and renowned Dragon Mobile Apps family brings the power of Dragon NaturallySpeaking to the iOS and Android platform across a variety of applications and services – supporting a broad range of languages. Nuance’s portfolio of speech and predictive text solutions are trusted by the world’s leading manufacturers and mobile operators, and are found in billions of phones and millions of automobiles and consumer electronic devices – making them among the most pervasive mobile solutions on the market today.

The Nuance Mobile Developer Program team will be at the Computer History Museum in Mountain View, California on June 24-25 as a Lead Sponsor for the Wireless Industry Partnership’s “WIP Jam - The Muther! of All Hackathons”. Nuance’s leading developers will be on-site to answer questions and work directly with the hundreds of iOS and Android developers taking part in this 48-hour developer event, and showing them how to successfully integrate the Dragon Mobile SDK with their mobile apps.
