BOSTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Apperian, Inc. (www.apperian.com) today announced it has closed a $9.5 million round of venture financing, with investments from North Bridge Venture Partners, Bessemer Venture Partners, Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers’ (KPCB) iFund, CommonAngels and LaunchCapital, the last two of which provided the company’s seed financing.
Apperian transforms enterprise mobility. The company’s EASE cloud platform is the first to allow businesses to create, deploy, and manage applications for Apple iOS-powered devices, and in the near future Android.
Mobile devices are taking the enterprise by storm and companies are ill-equipped to manage the applications that run on them. Alongside the millions of smartphones already in the workplace, a recent Goldman Sachs survey shows two-thirds of CIOs will adopt tablet computers in 2011. Based on predictions by Deloitte, an estimated 11 million tablet computers will be bought by enterprises in 2011.
“The unprecedented speed of tablet and smartphone adoption in business has opened an enormous opportunity for solutions that make it easy to create, deploy and manage enterprise mobile applications,” said Michael Skok, partner at North Bridge Venture Partners. “Apperian’s deep mobile experience has made it the first company to not only recognize this need, but deliver on it with the EASE enterprise scalable cloud architecture. As a result, the company has already won over major corporations. We’re delighted to be funding them to invest in building their developer community and partners programs, which are already generating significant interest.”
Apperian helps developers accelerate app creation and the EASE platform lets IT deploy and manage mobile apps, while maintaining security and control. EASE runs entirely in the cloud, allowing companies to focus on the development of business-focused applications, without having to worry about management infrastructure. The Apperian SDK and app templates enable developers to create and deploy commonly used enterprise apps in hours, not weeks. Enterprise developers can use EASE at no charge to deploy their custom apps on up to one hundred devices.
“Enterprise developers need to get in front of the huge demand for rich mobile apps that will allow users to take full advantage of device capabilities to make enterprise data smarter. By partnering with three of the top venture firms in the industry, we will be able to invest in growing our developer community and accelerate the release of our app templates and libraries,” said David Patrick, Apperian CEO.
“iOS devices have gone from a consumer phenomenon to mainstream in the enterprise, and with that has come a tremendous demand for mobile enterprise apps. Apperian’s solution is perfectly timed to help enterprises rollout and manage all their applications across their employee base and its wide variety of smart devices,” said Matt Murphy, KPCB Partner who leads the iFund. “Having built many of the apps that have led the industry, Apperian’s team is well-positioned to capitalize on this opportunity, which is already ahead of expectations and accelerating.”
“Mobile application management will help transform the way companies do business, allowing them to focus on the apps they need, rather than the process to create, deploy and manage them. With EASE, Apperian is the only company attacking this problem with a comprehensive solution and vision for the future of enterprise mobility,” said Bob Goodman, a founding partner in Bessemer Venture Partners’ New York office.
Skok and Goodman will join the Apperian board of directors.
