LEXINGTON, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Imprivata, the #1 authentication management and single sign-on provider announced today that it has seen a surge in state and local government business as agencies rush to meet the strong password and advanced authentication requirements of the CJIS policy. Within the new mandates, all agencies must have enforced unique IDs and strong passwords by September, 2010, and must comply with the CJIS Advanced Authentication requirement by 2013. However, Advanced Authentication is required for any system upgrade performed after 2005, meaning the 2013 deadline advances to the time of the upgrade. Agencies that are audited and don’t comply with the CJIS policy could be denied access to CJIS systems or face criminal penalties.
State and local government agencies such as Clay County Sheriff’s Office, Polk County Sheriff’s Office, Florida Department of Transportation, City of Key West, City of Homestead Police, and City of Miami Beach are using Imprivata OneSign® to comply with the CJIS security policy, improve productivity and cut IT costs. Polk County Sheriff’s Office in Florida chose Imprivata because it integrated with their Active Directory, enforced complex passwords for CJIS compliance and supported multiple strong authentication technologies.
“CJIS compliance can be daunting. With Imprivata OneSign, police departments can put an infrastructure in place for compliance while solving the immediate problems of managing logins to dozens of applications,” says Tom Rowles, Enterprise Support Supervisor, Polk County Sheriff’s Office.
In addition to enabling CJIS compliance, Imprivata OneSign eliminates end-user password headaches, reduces the burden of password reset calls to the help desk, and automates the password change process for all applications. While the City of Miami Beach originally chose Imprivata OneSign to solve their password management problems, the benefits have extended far beyond the time savings that resulted from reduced password resets. With Imprivata OneSign, the IT department has been able to enforce complex passwords and implement fingerprint biometrics, meeting Phase 2 of CJIS Compliance ahead of the 2013 deadline.
“Imprivata OneSign has helped us manage audits and new compliance requirements, and has improved productivity throughout city departments because people aren’t wasting time waiting for simple password resets. They really see the value and flexibility the solution provides to their business units, especially in the 24 hour operations,” says, Nelson Martinez Jr., Systems Support Manager, City of Miami Beach.
