India's nuclear program and its aim to achieve 20 gigawatts (GW) capacity by 2020 and 63 GW by 2032, is attracting domestic and international firms to capture the huge opportunities the country's nuclear industry has in store. Nuclear Power Corporation of India Limited (NPCIL) is a key nuclear player in constructing and operating nuclear power reactors in the country. In the near future, the company will strengthen its position as a catalyst in aiding India to meet its power demand through nuclear energy, which is free from green house emissions. Domestically, NPCIL has collaborated with major firms such as National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) of India, Electronics Corporation of India Limited (ECIL), Heavy Engineering Corporation Limited (HEC), Indian Railways, IVRCL Infrastructure & Projects Ltd, and Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) to spur India's nuclear expansion plans. It also has engaged with international entities such as Areva and Korea Electric Power Corporation (KEPCO) to construct nuclear power plants in the country. Additionally it has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Kazakhstan to export nuclear reactor technology. These domestic and international alliances will aid NPCIL in the coming years to fuel India's nuclear industry and also assist international nuclear power companies firms to set up nuclear power reactors and provide other nuclear related services globally. Apart from Kazakhstan, other potential countries NPCIL could target to export reactor technology are emerging economies such as Indonesia, Malaysia, Myanmar and Cambodia. Along similar lines emerging nuclear countries such as Nigeria, Namibia, Egypt, Tunisia, Morocco, Turkey and United Arab Emirates will need reactor technology to achieve their first nuclear power and it could prove a boon to NPCIL to expand its horizons for exporting nuclear reactor technology.
