DrupalCon Chicago 2011 Success Paves the Way for DrupalCon London and DrupalCon North America 2012

DrupalCon Momentum Builds as Growing Drupal Community Sets Sights on DrupalCon London and DrupalCon North America 2012 - to be held in Denver

DrupalCon Chicago

CHICAGO--()--DrupalCon Chicago, an international event that brings together the community that utilizes, develops, designs and supports the Drupal platform, concluded an overwhelmingly successful event that was filled with jam-packed sessions, training, code sprints and collaboration for a standout crowd of nearly 3,000 members of the Drupal community. The momentum continues in anticipation of DrupalCon London in August 2011 and the newly unveiled location for the next North American event – DrupalCon Denver in 2012.

The conference kicked-off with a rousing keynote presentation from Drupal founder Dries Buytaert, highlighting the future of Drupal’s ecosystem, including further improvements to Drupal.org, the Git migration and most notably, setting the stage for the Drupal 8 roadmap. Dries highlighted how Drupal will remain an entire ecosystem – not just a set of features – that will support the future of being anywhere, at any time, reaching any information or people needed on any device.

Internet visionary Clay Shirky also gave a powerful keynote discussing the increasingly social aspect of the Internet and what this means for how content and content management is viewed. Usability guru Jared Spool, the final keynote speaker, captivated the audience with a presentation on intuitive design and the usability of web sites.

DrupalCon Chicago erupted with announcements from companies launching new initiatives and products, including Acquia’s announcement of the general availability of Drupal Gardens 1.0; Commerce Guys announcement of Drupal Commerce; Lullabot’s launch of its Drupal SaaS offering, BUZZR; Palantir.net’s release of Workbench, a module suite designed to streamline content management tasks; Pantheon’s official beta launch; and VPS.NET’s launch of a new Drupal hosting derivative.

In recognition of Drupal’s tenth anniversary, a sold-out event of 2,250 attendees celebrated at the first-ever official DrupalCon after party at The Field Museum of Natural History. Party guests enjoyed free access to many of the museum’s permanent exhibitions, along with the chance to socialize and network with fellow DrupalCon attendees.

“We couldn’t be more thrilled with the outcome of DrupalCon Chicago,” said Jacob Redding, executive director, Drupal Association. “The energy and excitement over the past few days exemplifies the essence and spirit of the Drupal community. DrupalCon is the community's conference and nothing demonstrated that more than the collaboration and engagement we witnessed in Chicago. There are many great things to come for Drupal and we can’t wait to celebrate and carry that momentum into DrupalCon London and DrupalCon Denver.”

DrupalCon Chicago raised more than $433,000 to help fund initiatives that will support and foster the growth of the Drupal project, a strong indicator of the power of the Drupal community and its excitement for further innovations.
