MEDWAY, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Cybex International, Inc. (NASDAQ: CYBI), a leading manufacturer of premium exercise equipment, today announced a new partnership with the University of Massachusetts, Amherst with the launch of the college’s fully-equipped Body Shop fitness facility, which was outfitted by CYBEX.
The new fitness center is equipped with $120,000 dollars worth of exercise equipment that CYBEX donated to the University. The equipment will be utilized by the UMASS Amherst Department of Kinesiology for a variety of research projects investigating exercise, fitness and wellness. The center will also be used by the school’s students, faculty, staff and the community at large.
CYBEX President and COO Arthur Hicks said, “We are extremely excited to be partnering with the UMASS Department of Kinesiology, one of the finest programs in the world, to advance research into and understanding of exercise science. CYBEX is committed to providing the safest and most effective exercise equipment possible. The research advances that this equipment makes possible will help us achieve that goal. No other fitness equipment manufacturer puts these sorts of resources into research.”
Dr. Patty Freedson, Chair of Department of Kinesiology said, “This partnership is vital because it allows faculty and students to conduct important research about exercise and to use that data to inform the scientific community and CYBEX. That information helps spark further investigation and will help CYBEX tailor its machines to more specific exercise outcomes. It will also help us educate people about how to work out better and more safely, which is critical given the obesity and inactivity crisis our nation faces.”
CYBEX’s Paul Juris said, “As the Executive Director of the Cybex Institute for Exercise Science and an alumnus of the Department of Kinesiology, I am thrilled to have helped establish this partnership between two world-class institutions. We are looking forward to working with students and faculty in our collaborative research efforts, to develop new health and fitness solutions for our communities, and to provide valued information to health and fitness professionals.”
