Wyse Technology Previews First and Only High-Performance Microsoft RemoteFX-Capable Zero Client Optimized for VDI-Centric Cloud Computing Deployments at CeBIT 2011 in Germany

CeBIT 2011

SAN JOSE, Calif.--()--Wyse Technology, the global leader in cloud client computing, this week is previewing the first high-performance software based zero client with Microsoft's new RemoteFX technology, expected to further accelerate adoption of virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI) and cloud computing on Microsoft virtualization platforms.

Working closely with Microsoft, Wyse engineers developed support for RDP 7.1 and RemoteFX in Wyse Zero™, an intelligent cloud software technology developed at Wyse, and already in use in millions of thin clients, next-generation zero clients, and Wyse's hugely popular Wyse PocketCloud mobile cloud software available for iOS and Android devices.

Wyse's demonstration is the first to combine powerful general purpose client hardware, RemoteFX, and Wyse Zero to deliver the future in next-generation zero client technology -- improving the usefulness and economics of VDI by providing workers significantly improved user experience, and benefiting IT by eliminating tasks associated with client management and security.

Microsoft RemoteFX leverages the power of virtualized graphics resources and advanced codecs to recreate the fidelity of hardware-assisted graphics acceleration, including support for 3D content and Windows Aero, on a remote user's device. This allows for a local-like, remote user experience over a variety of possible host, client and network configurations. More information on RemoteFX is available at http://bit.ly/RemoteFX.

The new zero client is being previewed in Booth A04, in Hall 4 at CeBIT, March 1 – 5, in Hannover Germany. At CeBIT this week, Wyse is showing its leading line of cloud client computing technologies, including management, virtualization, and cloud software, and cloud client hardware, providing government, enterprise, and consumers with a superior alternative to legacy PCs.

Last week, Wyse announced immediate support for RDP 7.1 and RemoteFX, in its line of cloud PCs, powerful, cloud-based alternatives to legacy PCs. Wyse will also deliver RDP 7.1 and RemoteFX support to customers using thin clients based on Wyse-enhanced Windows Embedded Standard 7 this quarter, followed by Wyse-enhanced Windows Embedded Standard 2009, and the upcoming Windows Embedded Compact 7 platform.

"Cloud client computing delivers new levels of competitive advantage for our customers by reducing TCO, IT challenges, and mobility limitations associated with the PC model," according to Param Desai, Sr. Director, Product Management at Wyse Technology. "Supporting the latest technologies from our partners, like RemoteFX, expands the value and applicability of the model, especially when implemented in our next-generation zero client approach."

Wyse will announce price and availability details on the new zero client as it nears market availability.
