MINNEAPOLIS--()--Dr. Margery Mayer, a 2008 PhD graduate of Capella University (http://www.capella.edu), an accredited online university* that has built its reputation by providing high quality online degree programs for working adults, has authored the second edition of a book on managing global business teams.“The Virtual Edge: Embracing Technology for Distributed Project Team Success” was first published in 2000; the second edition of the book published by the Project Management Institute (PMI) last fall has been significantly updated with a global leadership emphasis. Mayer, who owns and operates the consulting firm Global Operations Experts that works with global business teams, graduated from Capella with a PhD in Organization and Management. As of Sept. 30, 2010, more than 38,000 students are pursuing an online degree at Capella, with 30 percent enrolled in Capella’s doctoral degree programs, and 48 percent enrolled in Capella’s master’s degree programs.

Mayer says she wrote the book specifically for global business leaders who manage resources around the world. The book explores the varied aspects of global teams and how effective leadership truly makes a difference. It includes case study research from such notable companies as Autodesk, Johnson & Johnson, J.P. Morgan, eBay, and Adobe Systems Incorporated.

“I was looking for best practices from these leaders that could be used by others to ensure top performing globally distributed teams. Managing global teams requires critical management, communication and leadership skills that build trust and effectiveness,” Mayer said.

The book is available through www.globaloperationsexperts.com as well as through the Project Management Institute website: www.pmi.org. Mayer will also be speaking about her book at various venues in 2011 including the VC Forum and online telesummit in March, and the PMI EMEA Congress in Dublin this May.
