CHARLOTTE, N.C.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Bank of America today announced the 14th season of its national Museums on Us program which will now include 150 of the nation’s finest arts, cultural and educational institutions. Designed to increase access to the arts across the nation, the program offers Bank of America and Merrill Lynch debit and/or credit cardholders the opportunity to visit these popular cultural landmarks, free of charge, on the first full weekend of every month. Museums on Us program participants include national and regional art museums, science and history museums, zoos, aquariums, and gardens.
The program covers the U.S. map and is available to millions of Bank of America and Merrill Lynch customers, currently representing one out of every two households in the United States.
“By continuing to support and expand our Museums on Us program, we offer our customers access to diverse arts and cultural resources,” said Rena M. DeSisto, arts and culture executive. “Investments in the arts create and drive greater cultural understanding, inform and inspire, and help local economies grow – setting opportunity in motion. This is a distinctive advantage of doing business with us and we are proud to share this program with cultural enthusiasts across the nation.”
Due to the program’s increased popularity, in 2011 Museums on Us is expanding its roster of participating institutions in several geographical markets across the country to a total of 150 museums and cultural centers in 85 cities, including the addition of New Mexico and Ohio. Among the museums joining the roster are the Indian Pueblo Cultural Center in Albuquerque and the SITE Santa Fe, and the Great Lakes Science Center in Cleveland. In states where Museums on Us already has a strong presence, the program has extended its reach into new markets including Bridgeport, Conn., Savannah, Ga., Raleigh-Durham, N.C., Pittsburgh, Pa., Memphis, Tenn., and Williamsburg, Va.
Participants in Museums on Us range from some of the nation’s most prominent fine arts institutions – such as the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, the Seattle Art Museum, and the Art Institute of Chicago – to a wide range of regional institutions such as the NASCAR Hall of Fame in Charlotte, N.C., The Chabot Space and Science Center in Oakland, Calif., and the National World War I Museum in Kansas City, Mo. (see full list below).
"Bank of America recognizes that museums such as ours are important community anchors and that by visiting these facilities, their customers can experience science and culture in exciting ways and gain valuable insights into the world around them," said Nigella Hillgarth, executive director of Birch Aquarium at Scripps.
To qualify for Museums on Us, customers simply present their Bank of America or Merrill Lynch credit or debit card along with a photo ID to gain one free general admission to any participating institution. Not valid for special exhibitions, fundraising events or ticketed shows. Not to be combined with any other discounts or offers. Free admission does not guarantee reservation. Offer valid the first full weekend of each month through December 3-4, 2011.
