SANTA CLARA, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Polaris Wireless, the global leader in high-accuracy, software-based wireless location solutions, today announced it achieved an average annual 66 percent increase in contract bookings from 2007 to 2010. This accomplishment capped a year in which the 10-year-old Silicon Valley company expanded its workforce and enlarged its footprint by opening a Dubai office to meet growing global demand for its solutions. The substantial increase in new business positions the company well to achieve a significant increase in revenue in 2011. More than twenty-five U.S. wireless operators, two managed services partners, and several government agencies now rely on Polaris Wireless location solutions to enable emergency call applications, lawful and mass location surveillance, and other location-based services.
“In just the last 12-18 months, a number of forces have converged to unleash location-based innovation and fuel the growth of location-based services,” said Dr. Phil Hendrix, PhD, director of immr (Institute for Mobile Markets Research) and GigaOm Pro analyst. “Location determination is at the heart of location-based services, and the ability to determine where users are located, more precisely, on more devices and in more places (both indooors and outdoors) is a critical capability that will only increase in importance in 2011 and 2012.”
Polaris Wireless achieved several significant milestones in 2010, including:
- The awarding of multi-million dollar international contracts, as a lead systems integrator, for high-accuracy lawful and mass location surveillance solutions to assist authorized law enforcement agencies (LEA’s) in criminal investigations and antiterrorist activities. The Polaris WLS (Wireless Location SignaturesTM) solution gives customers the ability to conduct geo-fencing, post-event analytics, and predictive intelligence using Polaris Wireless’ unique high accuracy mass location surveillance capability.
- The creation of a managed services distribution model to enable wireless operators to more quickly, easily and cost-effectively meet Federal Communications Commission (FCC) E911 Phase II requirements and deliver location-based services. Globecomm Systems, Inc. and TeleCommunication Systems, Inc. are partnering with Polaris Wireless to deploy the solution to their customers.
- The endorsement by the Third Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) standards organization of RF Pattern Matching (RFPM) location technology for incorporation into its 3G UMTS specifications. The RFPM positioning method is based on radio link measurements collected from the network and/or the wireless device. This method relies on predictions or models of the radio environment against which it performs an algorithmic comparison of the measurements to determine a best match location of the mobile device. This endorsement sets the stage for opportunities to incorporate RF Pattern Matching into LTE and other future air interfaces. Polaris WLSTM is a patented implementation of RFPM.
- The expanded deployment of Polaris Wireless solutions has resulted in a substantial increase of covered subscribers globally. This increase in business led the company to open a Dubai regional headquarters to serve the Middle East and Africa region, and to enlarge the total Polaris Wireless employee workforce.
“2010 was a year of significant growth for our business,” said Manlio Allegra, President and Chief Executive Officer, Polaris Wireless. “We have thoughtfully expanded our business in the midst of the global downturn, continued to refine our products to enter new markets, and laid the foundation for even stronger growth in 2011.”
The easy to deploy, easy to maintain Polaris Wireless Location Signatures solution identifies the location of a wireless device to within 50 meters and delivers the best software-based location in dense urban and indoor environments, avoiding the costly and time-consuming maintenance associated with hardware-based location solutions. Polaris Wireless also provides its customers regular product enhancements and updates, and 24/7 technical and operational support to better monitor and improve the performance of its solutions. Polaris WLSTM is designed to scale as an operator’s network grows, providing location capabilities in 2G (GSM/CDMA), 3G (UMTS/WCDMA), and emerging 4G (LTE) air interfaces, as well as indoor technologies such as WiFi, DAS, and Femtocells. Polaris Wireless ensures that an operator’s critical ability to accurately locate all wireless devices will evolve alongside its network evolution.
