Los Gatos Tomato Products, in Collaboration With CLEAResult and PG&E, Receives Nearly $1M in Utility Incentives

The Strategic Energy Management program helps businesses optimize energy use

AUSTIN, Texas--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Today CLEAResult, North America’s largest energy efficiency, energy transition and energy sustainability services provider, in collaboration with the Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E), announced that Los Gatos Tomato Products received nearly $1 million in utility incentives for participating in a Strategic Energy Management (SEM) program.

Los Gatos Tomato Products completed several energy-saving projects through SEM – a multi-year consultative program sponsored by PG&E and implemented by CLEAResult. Focused on upgrades to the site’s extensive steam system, these projects improved efficiency by fixing steam leaks, reducing gas consumption for steam generation and implementing Mechanical Vapor Recompression (MVR) to recycle waste steam. The combined projects reduced electrical consumption by 2.5%, gas consumption by over 8% and led to an annual reduction of more than 6 million gallons of water, due to reduced steam requirements.

“We continually strive to improve our Product Carbon Footprint (PCF) and promote sustainability,” said Steven Sesock, Los Gatos Tomato Products Vice President of Operations. “The SEM program is an excellent way for food producers to improve their operations.”

As a result of these efforts, the California-based tomato processing site earned combined utility incentives totaling nearly $1 million. The PG&E Sponsored SEM program is available to eligible food producers and offers participants financial incentives for energy savings. More than 70 food producers across PG&E’s service area are currently benefiting from this program.

“We’re proud to offer our customers innovative energy efficiency programs to help them achieve their energy management goals and enhance energy infrastructure resilience,” said Josh Simes, Central Valley Regional Vice President at PG&E. "SEM is one of the most cost-effective programs to ensure grid stability.”

“This is a unique long-term partnership between utilities and their customers that delivers value to both for multiple years,” said Keri Macklin, CLEAResult’s SEM and Carbon Consulting Practice Vice President. “We are proud to be a leader in delivering SEM to utility customers in the state of California since 2018.”

SEM programs foster a culture of energy efficiency among facility staff while driving operational improvements for continuous energy savings. CLEAResult currently implements and manages 58† SEM programs across the U.S. and Canada, helping businesses optimize energy performance and achieve long-term savings.
