Brightcore Energy Awarded Five-Year Contract from New York Power Authority

Award enables the company to provide energy efficiency upgrades to state agencies, municipal entities, and their customers.

ARMONK, N.Y.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Brightcore Energy, a leader in developing and implementing renewable energy solutions for the commercial and institutional market, announced today that it has been awarded a contract by the New York Power Authority (NYPA) to provide lighting and control retrofit services to government entities, municipalities, and their customers in New York State. Brightcore will perform the upgrades using its unique turn-key design-build model to make the process seamless for clients, accelerating their decarbonization initiatives while minimizing operational disruptions.

The contract, awarded through a competitive procurement process, will allow New York State agencies, such as the Port Authority of NY & NJ, Department of Education, NYPD, and other entities to utilize Brightcore Energy for lighting and control upgrade services. These retrofits would include replacing aging, inefficient lighting systems with advanced energy-efficient LED lighting fixtures and controls in state and city-owned facilities.

“Lighting is the single, most cost-effective energy efficiency update that government offices, schools, and other state and local entities still using fluorescent fixtures can do,” said Mike Richter, President of Brightcore Energy. “The efficiency improvement, reduced carbon, longevity, and better quality of light make it beneficial in every aspect.”

A shift to LED lighting has significant potential for both energy and operational cost savings. LED lights convert 95% of their energy to light while generating very little waste heat. LEDs also reach full brightness in microseconds and have a lifespan that can reach 100,000 hours. By comparison, typical fluorescent lamps convert approximately 85% of their energy to light and have a lifespan of about 10,000 hours. In addition to higher energy usage and related costs are the replacement and maintenance expenses.
