Children’s Hospital Los Angeles Kicks off Annual Valentine’s Day Card Drive on CHLA.org

For each card sent by Feb. 14, an anonymous donor will give $1 to Children’s Hospital Los Angeles, up to $50,000

LOS ANGELES--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Children’s Hospital Los Angeles (CHLA) is shooting for the stars for its annual Valentine’s Day card drive, which kicks off today on CHLA.org. Hospital supporters and friends are invited to join in on the fun by sending CHLA’s pediatric patients space-themed Valentine’s Day cards.

“When a child is hospitalized, they miss out on fun school activities like exchanging Valentines with their friends and classmates,” says Carol Hamamoto, Child Life and Expressive Arts & Therapies Manager at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles. “That’s why we created a Valentine’s Day tradition at CHLA with balloons and goodie bags that contain thoughtful Valentines from our community. The cards, with uplifting messages, sweet poems, and sometimes silly jokes, are a fun way to celebrate and so appreciated by our patients.”

Sending a Valentine is an easy, two-step process that only takes a couple of minutes, but will certainly make a patient’s day. First, go to chla.org/Valentine and choose a card bearing one of three space-themed images—a unicorn jumping over the moon, a rocket-riding koala bear, or a one-eyed alien in a spaceship. Second, write a personal Valentine’s Day message to a patient. For each card with a message sent, an anonymous donor will give $1 to CHLA, up to $50,000.

Printed cards and messages will be hand delivered by CHLA’s Child Life team to patients in celebration of the special day. In past years, patients have received Valentine’s Day cards and good wishes from the Los Angeles community and international supporters from Canada, South America, Europe, Australia, and Asia.
