Arch Painting Announces Acquisition of Paintzen Platform

Boston-based Provider of National Paint Contracting Services Integrates Breakthrough Automation Platform to Transform Customer Experience

WOBURN, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Arch Painting, the leading national provider of paint contracting services for commercial and residential customers, today announced the acquisition of Paintzen from one of the world’s leading paint providers. Arch made the acquisition as part of its growth strategy, aimed at tripling the size of the company over the next five years, fueled in part by service automation and technology.

Paintzen was founded in 2013 as an on-demand booking tool to help homeowners and renters easily access competitive prices and contract qualified professionals for painting services. The acquisition, deployment and enhancement of Paintzen is part of Arch’s multi-pronged plan to automate the $40 billion residential and commercial painting industry to reflect the busy lives of customers. Through this automation, Arch will be uniquely positioned to deliver immediate competitive quotes and speedier deployment for enhanced satisfaction for both categories of customers.

Arch Painting, which was founded in 1997, is one of the nation’s largest painting contractors. Its rise has, in part, been driven by innovation and creativity designed to make the painting experience more streamlined and easily accessible. Paintzen builds on this legacy, adapting new technology to reflect the busy digital lifestyles of today’s consumers.

“The paint contracting services category is ripe for innovation that leverages the power of technology,” said Rich Kilgannon, President and CEO of Arch Painting. “Our decision to acquire Paintzen reflects our belief in the power of meeting customers where they function in their busy digital lives. Our plan is twofold: first, to fully optimize the current potential of the platform to transform how we service residential customers in 2025 and beyond. Second, as part of our long-term vision, by developing modules that adapt the platform to our commercial business in 2026. Research of digital engagement habits tells us that people tend to interact with technology the same way in their personal and professional lives.”

Paintzen is part of the company’s master plan, which includes bolstering its technology group with the recent hiring of a VP of Technology and its marketing group with professionals who have helped anticipate market changes and customer preferences to deploy new technology-enabled services. Arch has drawn talent from leading technology and global marketing services companies as it sets its agenda on a five-year growth plan to dominate the industry. The company already leads the industry in back-office technology that enables it to better manage crews, customer relationships and mission critical functions in daily management. It is now applying the same level of innovation to pricing and delivery, initiating this blitz with immediate deployment of Paintzen as a core component of its residential interior services. Customers can access the technology at www.paintzen.com.

In 2025 the company plans new advances in the residential platform that will result in the same automation for exterior services. Plans include potential integrations of AI, satellite imagery and, potentially, company operated drones to access critical data for completing exterior work. And, as previously noted, the company will also focus on developing commercial modules for 2026. Kilgannon sees this as a significant competitive advantage to drive faster and better delivery in national growth segments where centralized corporate structures make decisions about which contractors they hire for dispersed work throughout the US. Arch services a range of categories that fit this description, including, but not limited to: restaurant and hospitality groups; REITs; financial institutions; senior living facilities; and commercial/retail facilities; among others.

Kilgannon envisions a future where Arch laps the competition with its innovation and customer satisfaction. “This industry tends to function on proven principles,” said Kilgannon. “Unfortunately, for our competitors, this has translated to stagnancy and a lack of imagination as to the possibilities of technology. If people are willing to purchase a Tesla or book an expensive vacation using their phone apps, why won’t they follow the same practice in beautifying and improving the value of their real estate? We believe they will.”

Proof of Kilgannon’s thesis: The company recently commissioned a comprehensive national research project to gauge attitudes of a range of prospects. The research, which interviewed members of every generational cohort, shows that fully half of respondents in the Millennial and Gen Z cohorts want to use technology to book and manage their painting needs. “Millennials and Gen Z are the present and future generations of homeownership and business leadership in America. Our objective is to align how and where we deliver services to meet them in their digital lives,” he said.

Arch also has plans to offer Paintzen as a white label, competitive differentiator for big box services providers and home improvement businesses (brick and mortar, and web-based) seeking ways to stand out in their increasingly competitive categories. With automated home beautification services, these businesses can fundamentally shift the competitive dynamic to their advantage in what is otherwise a price-sensitive, parity category. Arch is in advanced discussions with several of the nation’s top big box stores about deployments for its residential platform in 2025, with plans to branch into commercial services in 2026.

Here’s What Paintzen users Have to Say About the Platform

“Very efficient service; great website that allows you to compare paint colors. And the painter was very professional and efficient. Would highly recommend this company and definitely use them again. This was for a small, one bedroom apartment.” - Steve H.
