AUBURN HILLS, Mich.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Technology company Continental will showcase its comprehensive portfolio of vehicle technologies and innovations at CES 2025. During the show, visitors will experience leading-edge solutions aimed at advancing mobility through software-defined vehicle technologies to seamlessly crafted modern displays and autonomous features that transform traditional mobility.
“Continental is shaping the current automotive industry transformation,” said Aruna Anand, President and CEO, Continental Automotive, North America. “Our presence at CES 2025 will highlight our commitment to providing a full stack of integrated solutions that empower automakers to develop and deploy next-generation vehicles. We are pushing the boundaries of automotive innovation to develop mobility that is autonomous, safer, more exciting, and more connected than ever before.”
Continental’s software-defined vehicle solutions
Visitors can experience the future of mobility with Continental’s software-defined vehicle (SDV) innovations that enable safer, more efficient, and personalized driving experiences. Continental’s Road to Cloud Ecosystem approach to the SDV provides a full stack toolchain to simplify and accelerate development of vehicle software. With the Electric Backbone of the SDV, users will see the interaction and connection of hardware enablers while the Continental Automotive Edge Framework and Virtualization highlights the developer workbench, cloud solutions and seamless integration into High-Performance Computers (HPC) and Zone Control Units.
Additional software solutions for future mobility such as Cabin Sensing, Holistic Motion Control, Radar Vision Parking, and Smart Device-based Vehicle Access further progress SDV capabilities. The range of SDV possibilities premiere with Continental’s Intelligent Vehicle Experience – an intelligent vehicle that senses its environment, anticipates user intention, and interacts with users. Existing vehicle sensors, combined with AI algorithms, offer a system solution for new SDV architecture, and provide a highly personalized user experience.
Increasing safety while enhancing user experience
At its core, Continental strives for transportation rooted in Vision Zero: zero fatalities, zero injuries, zero crashes. The Future Brake System is an innovative roadmap for the brake systems of the future. It shows how the classic hydraulic brake systems are further developed in four steps into smart systems without any hydraulics. From smart actuator to complete brake function with the highest performance and safety, Continental’s brake systems provide optimized recuperation, low emissions, scalable modularity, and are ready for automated driving.
Also on display will be the Drive-Brake Unit, which combines a highly efficient in-wheel motor with a friction brake. The individual wheel drive enables new features like active torque vectoring and mission complete in case of failure of one drive. The Drive-Brake Unit provides up to 20 percent more efficiency than a central drive which allows reduced battery size or increased vehicle range. Additionally, it frees up valuable installation space between wheels for larger batteries, passengers, or cargo.
Alongside increased safety, drivers and passengers can enjoy new benefits with Continental’s User Experience innovations. The Invisible Biometrics Sensing Display, a CES 2025 Innovation Award Honoree, combines secure authentication, advanced safety, health, and well-being – all integrated invisibly behind an OLED display. The innovative display, featuring 3D distance mapping for airbag deployment and seatbelt monitoring, as well as contactless biometric sensing for heart rate tracking, offers a range of safety advantages. The CES Innovation Awards program annually recognizes exceptional design and engineering in 33 consumer technology categories, with an elite panel of industry experts judging submissions based on innovation, engineering, aesthetics, and design.
Other exciting technologies at CES 2025 include a Window Projection System which transforms the side window into an exterior display. Easy personalization allows the rear window to become a content area for users to display unique images, such as their favorite sports team, as well as charging status and trip information. Inside the vehicle, users can elevate their mobility experience with the Emotional Cockpit, creating an emotional bond between the driver and vehicle with sleek displays integrated in unique Swarovski crystals and a user customizable E Ink decor display.
Developing the future of driverless transportation
Continental continues to push the boundaries in the autonomous mobility space and will feature its latest solutions during CES 2025. The modular and scalable advanced driver assistance system (ADAS) portfolio, including a full-stack partnership with Ambarella and state-of-the-art birds-eye fusion technology, manages high complexity. To address OEMs' challenge of reducing components and improving aesthetic vehicle design, Continental has developed radar-based parking solutions while maintaining high-speed ADAS features utilizing existing surround-range radars and removing ultrasonic sensors.
Additionally, Continental is industrializing and manufacturing the hardware of the Aurora Driver, an industry-leading SAE L4 autonomous driving system for trucking, which is slated to go into production in 2027. Continental will leverage its extensive automotive product portfolio and develop a new fallback system, which is a specialized secondary computer, including additional sensorics, that can take over operation if a failure occurs in the primary system. Within a year of finalizing the design and architecture of the future hardware kit, the companies recently finalized the detailed system and component-level architecture and hardware selections. Initial prototype testing is set for the first half of 2025.
“We’re on the cusp of a mobility revolution and, at CES, we’ll showcase how this transformation is reshaping every aspect of the vehicle,” said Anand. “From features that are obvious to users to those that are seamlessly integrated into the mobility experience, Continental is truly transforming the way we move.”
