A Colombian Physician Named CEO of One of the Most Prestigious Children’s Hospitals in the United States

KANSAS CITY, Mo.--()--A Colombian physician and graduate of Universidad del Rosario, Dr. Alejandro Quiroga, has been appointed as the new President and CEO of Children’s Mercy Kansas City, one of the most renowned pediatric healthcare systems in the United States. Dr. Quiroga will officially assume his role on January 2, 2025, marking a significant milestone in his distinguished career.

Children’s Mercy Kansas City, known for its excellence in pediatric clinical care and groundbreaking research, serves children across the Midwest and beyond. Dr. Quiroga’s appointment follows a rigorous nationwide search that highlighted his extensive experience and innovative leadership in healthcare.

Dr. Quiroga comes to Children’s Mercy from Corewell Health, the largest health system in Michigan, where he served as President of Corewell Health West. There, he oversaw a $4.2 billion integrated health system that includes 10 hospitals, over 120 ambulatory sites, and the largest teaching hospital affiliated with Michigan State University College of Human Medicine. His leadership was instrumental in enhancing patient care, improving employee retention, and fostering innovation across the organization.

A specialist in pediatric nephrology, Dr. Quiroga’s journey began at Universidad del Rosario in Bogotá, Colombia. His passion for medicine and research took him to Johns Hopkins Hospital, where he completed clerkships in neurology, pediatric neurology, and pediatric oncology research. He later completed his residency at Nicklaus Children’s Hospital in Miami and his fellowship in pediatric nephrology at Montefiore Children’s Hospital in New York City.
