EcoVadis Hires New Product Carbon Footprint Experts to Usher in the Next Generation of GHG Emission Reduction Between Companies and Their Suppliers

Antoine Verger and Varena Junge to Help EcoVadis Accelerate Supplier Carbon Maturity to Build the Foundation for Reporting on Product-Level Emissions

PARIS & NEW YORK--()--EcoVadis, the leading sustainability intelligence platform for global supply chains, today announces the hiring of Antoine Verger and Varena Junge to expand EcoVadis’ existing carbon expertise. In a move to push the boundaries on GHG emission reduction strategies, the two will be tasked with developing a Product Carbon Footprint (PCF) tool as part of EcoVadis’ Carbon Action Manager solution that already supports growing carbon maturity across supply chains. Verger and Junge’s expertise will build upon EcoVadis’ holistic supply chain decarbonization strategy which helps organizations increase the availability and quality of granular carbon data at product level.

A complex and evolving regulatory landscape is increasing demand for carbon data at product level. The Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) will require any importer into the European Union (EU) to declare the quantity of CO2 of products like cement, iron, steel, fertilizers, and electricity. In the U.S., eight states have passed laws requiring environmental product declarations (EPDs) in government-funded building and construction. The Digital Product Passport initiative, while not yet mandatory, is anticipated to be adopted by the EU and mandated between 2026 and 2030, requiring a wide range of products sold in the EU to disclose carbon data at product level, in order to enhance transparency across value chains.

“The regulatory landscape is putting increasing pressure on organizations to understand and report on carbon emissions in the products they purchase from their trading partners,” said Julia Salant, General Manager Carbon Solution at EcoVadis. “Organizations cannot fully understand the full scope of their emissions without carbon data at product level. Antoine and Varena bring highly sought-after expertise to speed up product innovation and respond to rising demand for tools that can meet the new carbon regulatory requirements.”

To support all companies in their decarbonization journey, EcoVadis’ Carbon Action Manager increases the availability of carbon data across its network of suppliers, with 70,000 rated on carbon maturity across a network of 130,000+ companies, and 37,000 reporting carbon emission data. EcoVadis’ recent Carbon Action Report analyzed the performance of these organizations. Those more advanced in their decarbonization journeys are asking suppliers to report PCF data, but fewer than 4% of smaller suppliers are able to report the GHG emissions embedded in their products.

In this new configuration, Verger and Junge are tasked with building a simple PCF calculator aligned with CBAM and PACT frameworks. This will help define EcoVadis’ carbon data structure and share carbon data at product level across the EcoVadis network, creating actionable insights for companies at every stage of their decarbonization journey.

Verger comes to EcoVadis with 15 years of experience in software development and technical leadership. Junge is a PCF thought leader and decarbonization expert with a 15-year track record in driving sustainable product innovation for companies across various industries. Together with their entrepreneurial mindset and passion for sustainability, they will accelerate EcoVadis’ product innovation to meet the rising demand for PCF and tools, increase quality, quantity and availability of glandular product data, and help companies accelerate their decarbonization programs to meet Net Zero targets.
