Kyocera, a 24M Technology License Partner, Doubles Production of SemiSolid™ Lithium-Ion Batteries Using 24M Technology

Success of Kyocera’s Enerezza residential energy storage system based on 24M technology is a testament to the company’s innovation and quality

CAMBRIDGE, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--24M today announced that its technology license and joint development partner, Kyocera Corporation, aims to double its production capacity for 24M SemiSolid™ lithium-ion residential energy storage batteries by FY2026. 24M disclosed that Kyocera is accelerating production due to increased demand for energy storage products.

The remarkable success of Kyocera’s residential energy storage system “Enerezza,” based on 24M technology, is a testament to the company's commitment to innovation and quality. This success is now driving further advancements in 24M SemiSolid lithium-ion battery innovation, instilling confidence in industry professionals, investors, and consumers interested in renewable energy and battery technology.

Hideo Tanimoto, President of Kyocera Corporation, added, “There is increasing demand for greater renewable energy consumption at home in the Japanese market. To respond to these market trends, we are expanding production of semi-solid energy storage batteries utilizing 24M’s advanced technology, promoting renewable energy usage in households.” He highlighted the innovation behind 24M SemiSolid technology and expressed Kyocera’s commitment to advancing the widespread adoption of renewable energy toward a more sustainable society.

“24M and Kyocera are dedicated to playing a meaningful role in creating a better energy future,” said Naoki Ota, President and CEO of 24M. “Kyocera’s expansion demonstrates the advantages of 24M’s SemiSolid technology in delivering safe, environmentally friendly, and cost-efficient renewable energy storage solutions. We are pleased to have recently expanded our partnership with Kyocera, and we look forward to collaborating on the commercialization of our latest technologies, including 24M LiForever™ and 24M ETOP™.”

In 2020, 24M and Kyocera became the first partners to commercialize the 24M SemiSolid electrode and unit cell manufacturing process through the launch of Enerezza. With its cost-effective, safe, and long-lasting energy storage solution, Enerezza is empowering consumers economically compared to conventional energy storage products.

Kyocera currently has an annual production capacity of 20,000 units and plans to double this capacity by FY2026 with a JPY 10 billion investment in developing a new lithium-ion battery production line leveraging 24M technology. This expansion will enable the Shiga Yasu plant to achieve an annual production capacity of 400 MWh of 24M SemiSolid batteries.

In March 2024, 24M and Kyocera jointly received the 2024 Electrochemical Society of Japan Technology Award (Tanahashi Award). This award is a testament to the practical application and commercialization of 24M SemiSolid lithium-ion battery cells in the Enerezza energy storage system, further validating the innovation and impact of our technology.
