OVERLAND PARK, Kan.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--The WellSky Foundation, a nonprofit dedicated to removing socioeconomic barriers to health and improving quality of life for vulnerable populations, today announced a donation of $200,000 to Amethyst Place, a Kansas City-based nonprofit dedicated to helping single mothers and their children overcome cycles of poverty and trauma.
The donation is a result of WellSky’s Week of Giving—a yearly event that inspires teammates to support the WellSky Foundation and its partners through fundraising and volunteering efforts. Amethyst Place will use the gift to furnish all 75 bedrooms in its new 32-apartment complex, increasing the organization’s capacity to house families in need. In addition to fully furnishing each bedroom, the contribution funds the creation of two new essential resources within the complex:
- Sister Space: A tranquil, private drop-in center where mothers can meet with Empowerment Coaches away from their children to work on life skills, educational and wellness goals, and mental health support.
- Household Pantry: A thoughtfully designed pantry offering fresh produce, nutritious food, and essential hygiene products, providing low-income mothers and their children dignified access to necessities to help ease food insecurity.
“We’re thrilled to help Amethyst Place bring their vision to life,” said Brett Fuller, executive director of the WellSky Foundation. “With this donation, we’re investing in Amethyst Place and its ability to provide safe housing, meaningful resources, and a supportive environment for families. Together, we’re working to ensure every mother and child has the foundation they need to build a brighter, healthier future.”
Amethyst Place supports more than 150 women and children annually, providing them with a long-term supportive housing program to help rebuild their lives. They are nearing completion of the new 32-unit housing campus, scheduled to be finished in January 2025, with interior design led by Bargain Mansions star Tamara Day. Increasing its housing capacity by 86%, Amethyst Place is poised to make an even greater impact on the Kansas City community.
“This gift allows Amethyst Place to extend our reach and support to even more single mothers and their children in need,” said Sarah Knopf-Amelung, director of strategy & growth at Amethyst Place. “Each furnished bedroom and resource represents hope, safety, and a fresh start for families recovering from generational trauma and poverty.”
The WellSky Foundation was established to address critical issues such as food insecurity, housing, transportation, and isolation – all of which impact a person’s wellness more than access to healthcare alone. Since 2019, the WellSky Foundation has donated more than $2.3 million to over 40 organizations.
