PROVIDENCE, R.I.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--A compelling study published November 1, 2024 in the American Journal of Lifestyle Medicine reveals that a one-month plant-based nutrition program led to substantial improvements in key health predictors associated with cardiovascular and metabolic diseases. The Jumpstart Your Health! program, led by Plant Docs physicians, guided participants through a transition of eating whole food, plant-based (WFPB) meals. After just 30 days, participants saw reductions in cholesterol levels, blood pressure, and inflammation, making this lifestyle change an accessible and inexpensive option for managing health risks naturally.
Jumpstart Your Health! was created in response to the epidemic of lifestyle-related diseases in the United States. With growing evidence around the role of WFPB nutrition in promoting health, Plant Docs developed this program to help individuals adopt healthier dietary habits. Participants received comprehensive education on incorporating fruits, vegetables, legumes, whole grains, nuts, and seeds into their daily diets, as well as practical guidance on meal planning, label reading, grocery shopping, and cooking.
Highlights
- Lower Cholesterol: for those with elevated values, total cholesterol and LDL “bad” cholesterol was reduced by over 16%
- Better diabetes control: a reduction in hemoglobin A1c of 2%
- Improved Blood Pressure: hypertensive participants saw a 10 point drop in systolic blood pressure
- Less Inflammation: a 32% reduction in the inflammatory marker hsCRP
- Weight loss: participants lost weight at a healthy rate of one pound per week
These findings underscore the transformative potential of dietary change in improving overall health and reducing chronic disease risk.
“This study validates what we’ve observed anecdotally in our Jumpstarts for years—that a commitment to a whole-food, plant-based eating can yield measurable health improvements, and it’s easier to do than people think.” said Dr. Sandra Musial, founder of Plant Docs.
"This experience completely transformed my approach to food and health," shared a participant. "Not only did I see real changes in my health markers, but I also felt more energized and motivated to continue eating this way beyond the program."
“Plant Docs continues to make strides in the corporate world by delivering a fresh, effective approach to workplace wellness,” said Wendy Kaiser, Program Director at Plant Docs and a proud graduate of Jumpstart Your Health! “Our programs empower employees to make sustainable dietary choices, improving health outcomes and fostering a culture of wellness that benefits the entire organization.”
"Education is key to empowering people to take control of their health. When individuals understand the impact of their food choices, they gain a sense of agency over their well-being. Programs like Jumpstart Your Health! give people the tools and knowledge they need to make lasting, life-changing dietary shifts,” said Michael Greger M.D., FACLM, nutrition expert and New York Times best selling author of How Not to Die.
