GAINESVILLE, Va.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Superior Paving Corp., a leading provider of paving services in Northern and Central Virginia, announces the successful acquisition of Kickin’ Asphalt Paving & Excavating, LLC, based in Strasburg, VA. This acquisition, Superior’s second of 2024, follows the purchase of Boxley Materials’ asphalt division in March and expands the company’s operations into West Virginia, further enhancing its capacity to serve communities along the I-81 corridor and beyond.
Kenneth Radford, founder of Kickin’ Asphalt, expressed his confidence in the transition. "I’m thrilled to pass my business on to Superior Paving, a family-owned company that shares our dedication to quality and safety," he said, reflecting on three decades of growth.
Founded in 1976, Superior Paving has built a reputation for excellence, partnership, integrity, and commitment—values embedded in its E.P.I.C. culture. With leadership including Chairman Frank Surface, CEO Jim Mitchell, and President David White, all second-generation team members, Superior continues its legacy of strategic growth while maintaining a strong commitment to its employees and customers.
David White, President of Superior Paving, emphasized the significance of this acquisition. “We’re excited to extend our services into the Western region and welcome the team from Kickin' Asphalt. This move allows us to better serve the I-81 corridor, connecting more communities and expanding our impact in providing safer, more reliable roads.”
Superior Paving’s CEO Jim Mitchell added, “Our growth along the I-81 corridor strengthens our ability to support vital infrastructure that people rely on every day, whether for work, school, or essential travel. This acquisition aligns with our commitment to ensuring the highest standards of road safety across the region.”
Mike Boyd, Vice President of Operations, echoed these sentiments, praising Superior’s focus on employee development. “Our mission is to develop remarkable employees, and this growth reflects Superior’s dedication to both its people and its product.”
With the acquisition of Kickin' Asphalt, Superior Paving now employs over 500 people, operates 20 field crews and 14 plants, and continues to expand its services across Virginia, North Carolina, and West Virginia. This strategic expansion positions Superior to better serve communities while providing growth opportunities for employees and customers alike.
