ZHENJIANG, China--(BUSINESS WIRE)--On October 24, operators at the power dispatch center of State Grid Zhenjiang Power Supply Company utilized the "Zhenjiang Integrated PV Observation and Measurement System" to view renewable energy power forecast curves for the next 10 days in the Zhenjiang region. Based on this information, they made appropriate arrangements for the grid operation mode for the coming days, effectively enhancing the local utilization rate of renewable energy.
With the intensified pursuit of the "dual carbon" goals, the renewable energy sector in Zhenjiang has experienced a rapid development since 2021. As of the end of September this year, the cumulative installed PV capacity in Zhenjiang reached 2491 MW. However, renewable energy generation faces challenges such as a lack of sunlight during evening peak load periods and extremely cold winter weather, which can affect power balance and grid frequency stability. To address these issues, it is essential to improve the accuracy of PV generation forecasting to provide reliable technical support for power balance, scheduling and maintenance plans, and operational arrangements.
To this end, in January of this year, State Grid Zhenjiang Power Supply Company took the lead in Jiangsu Province in establishing the "Integrated PV Observation and Measurement System" at prefecture and county levels. This system applies "artificial intelligence" technology and employs a refined algorithm of "breaking down the whole into parts and conducting two measurements per day" to achieve accurate forecasting of PV generation power for PV users at both prefecture and county levels, with a time span of up to 10 days. In early October, State Grid Zhenjiang Power Supply Company further iterated and updated the system by incorporating RPA technology, enabling machine substitution for humans and automating business process reporting. With the continuous advance of the system's application, the accuracy of PV power forecasting in the Zhenjiang region has increased from 89% to 93%, laying a solid foundation for renewable energy consumption and safe grid operation in the region, and further enhancing the level of renewable energy grid integration and consumption.
