LAS VEGAS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Flosonics Medical, a leader in wearable medical ultrasound, was selected as a Best in Class of the Digital Health Awards, presented by the Digital Health Hub Foundation in a ceremony Monday afternoon in Las Vegas at HLTH, the global healthcare conference.
One year after being named a Rising Star in the awards program, Flosonics was named Best in Class within the Provider Diagnostics category for its development of FloPatch® the world’s first wireless, wearable Doppler ultrasound. The FDA-cleared device gives clinicians a fast, hands-free method of assessing blood-flow at the bedside to help guide precision fluid management in critically ill patients.
“We are thrilled to be selected as a winner of the Digital Health Award, an achievement that recognizes our commitment to improving outcomes for critically ill patients and helping them get home to see their families. Our technology helps clinicians optimize sepsis resuscitation and avoid fluid overload,” said Joe Eibl, CEO of Flosonics Medical. “This remarkable achievement caps a year of significant commercial growth for Flosonics as more health systems come to recognize the value of giving clinicians real-time data to inform confident, data-driven decisions.”
Determining how much or how little intravenous (IV) fluid to give a patient is one of the most urgent, complicated and error-prone interventions in critical care. FloPatch provides a simple, fast and consistent method for measuring changes in blood flow and heart function related to IV fluid volume. By facilitating greater precision in IV fluid management, FloPatch improves care for critically ill patients, including those with septic shock, which is the leading cause of death in U.S. hospitals.
Placed on a patient’s neck, the hands-free FloPatch assesses blood flow in the carotid artery, which provides a window into the left ventricle. FloPatch then wirelessly transmits that data to a secure iOS mobile application, providing clinicians with actionable, real-time data at the bedside.
Case Study: Hospital’s Sepsis Mortality Drops from 30% to 5%
A 439-bed publicly-funded nonprofit hospital in the Greater Los Angeles area implemented FloPatch as part of a larger sepsis improvement program, driving significant improvements in the care of patients with sepsis and septic shock, including:
- A sharp decline in mortality, from 30% to 5%, for patients who met criteria for sepsis or septic shock
- A 35% reduction in Intensive Care Unit (ICU) admissions for patients with sepsis
- A 2-day decrease in ICU length of stay
