BIRMINGHAM, Ala.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Upstream Rehabilitation (Upstream), the largest dedicated outpatient physical therapy provider in the U.S., today announced Anthony Mollica as the company’s new chief executive officer.
“Upstream patients, partners and team members will benefit from Anthony’s clinical background and extensive healthcare leadership experience as he guides us forward, ensures we continue to deliver best-in-class care, supports our clinic teams and capitalizes on growth opportunities,” said Dave Van Name, Upstream Founder and Senior Advisor to the Board of Directors. “Upstream has a 20-year history of thoughtfully expanding the delivery of effective, clinically superior physical and occupational therapy services across the industry, and Anthony is the ideal leader to carry that legacy forward.”
Prior to joining Upstream, Mollica held the CEO position at Paragon Healthcare, Inc., a leading provider of infusion and pharmacy services, where he elevated and scaled the organization for sustained performance. He served as president of hospice and palliative care with Amedisys, Inc., the nation’s largest home health and hospice provider, guiding the organization and its more than 200 facilities to quality clinical outcomes, operational excellence, and financial strength. Mollica also held leadership roles with Brookdale Senior Living and Omnicare, Inc.
“My leadership approach is driven by my fundamental understanding of and lifelong commitment to direct patient care,” said Mollica. “I began my career as a pharmacist and have dedicated my career to healthcare and provider services. I look forward to connecting my clinical background with Upstream’s culture of care excellence to ensure that operations prioritize patient outcomes, empower clinicians, and create value for each of the communities we serve.”
Upstream operates more than 1,200 outpatient rehabilitation clinics across 28 states, employing more than 8,000 individuals, with more than 7,400 of those team members dedicated to direct patient care. Despite ongoing shifts across the healthcare industry and broader economy, Upstream has achieved consistent growth through its commitment to providing exceptional clinical care, with the company being on pace to realize nearly 8 million patient visits for 2024.
“Anthony’s background spans in-home healthcare, specialty care, pharmacy, palliative care, senior living, and hospice services,” said Van Name. “His cross-functional management experience is a perfect fit for our clinically driven culture and operational structure. His dynamic background will also bolster our agility and responsiveness amidst an evolving industry landscape.”
