Kenco’s Sustainability Accomplishments Include 39% Increase in Waste Diversion

Low OSHA incidence rate and voluntary turnover also among stats highlighted in report

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn.--()--Kenco, a leading third-party logistics provider, today announced the findings of its annual Sustainability Report, highlighting broader Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) initiatives and the outcomes of its company-wide efforts to foster safe and healthy workplaces and communities, environmentally responsible operations and long-term economic growth in 2023 and 2024. Kenco has aligned its sustainability efforts with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

As a result of Kenco’s focus on more environmentally friendly operations at its facilities, the 3PL provider has strengthened its strategies to reduce its carbon footprint. 20% of total waste from Kenco facilities was diverted from landfills in 2023, a 39% increase from 2022. In addition, 75% of Kenco’s leased and operated warehouses already have LED fixtures, with a goal of 80% by 2026.

Kenco’s commitment to workplace safety and engagement drove additional 2023 successes. The 3PL provider achieved an OSHA total recordable incidence rate (TRIR) of 2.95, remaining below the industry average of 5.5 and marking more than two decades of outperforming the industry average in TRIR. Voluntary turnover was 29.75%, well below the industry average of over 53%, and the company received a Gallup Employee Engagement rating of 3.94 out of 5.

Among the report’s other highlights:

  • 2023 greenhouse gas data provided for Kenco’s Scope 1 and 2 emissions, establishing a benchmark to evaluate and improve against into the future. This marks an important milestone, which supports our ongoing commitment to responsible best practices and industry trends.
  • 82% of Kenco’s material handling equipment (MHE) fleet utilized in warehousing operations is electric, as the 3PL continues efforts to move away from fuel sources such as propane.
  • 50% of Kenco employees are ethnically diverse, and the percentage of women in leadership roles has grown between 2020 and 2023 in positions such as Operations Supervisor, General Manager and Director.
  • 2,429 Kenco employees contributed a total of 1,800 volunteer hours and raised $36,000 for local charities.

“For Kenco, the term ‘sustainability’ is broad reaching. We look at it not only in the operational sense in how we reduce our carbon footprint, but also in the corporate sense about how we’re making inclusive decisions to help grow our team and run a sustainable organization,” said Denis Reilly, President and CEO at Kenco. “We’ve introduced a number of sustainability initiatives in the last few years, and we’re anticipating real, measurable impacts.”
