FeganScott Announces Investigation into MoneyGram Data Breach That Compromised Customers’ Personal and Financial Information

DALLAS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--FeganScott, a national law firm dedicated to protecting consumer rights, announced that it has launched an investigation into MoneyGram following confirmation from the financial services provider that an unauthorized third party illegally obtained customers’ personal and financial information during a September cyberattack.

In a recent statement, MoneyGram reported that the stolen customer information includes Social Security numbers, government identification documents, bank account numbers, and transaction information, among other data. The company has disclosed that the cyberattack occurred between September 20 and 22, 2024, but it has yet to formally announce its full scale and impact.

According to Elizabeth Fegan, managing partner of FeganScott, the data breach and MoneyGram’s handling of the issue are both troubling.

“It appears to me that MoneyGram failed miserably in its obligation to safeguard consumer data; that is apparent,” said Fegan. “What’s particularly galling is that after they allowed the theft to occur, they outlined steps that consumers should take to protect their personal data, which seems poorly timed and wholly lacking considering the circumstances.”

MoneyGram customers are urged to contact contact@feganscott.com to learn more about their rights or visit www.feganscott.com for more information.
