COHASSET, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--The Kulpa Foundation, a charitable organization founded by philanthropists Jason and Melissa Kulpa, is proud to announce Parker Shubin as the first recipient of the prestigious Kulpa Care Access Scholarship. Parker, a freshman at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), was selected for his resilience and academic excellence despite ongoing medical challenges. This scholarship will provide Parker with financial assistance toward his educational and medical expenses.
The Kulpa Care Access Program was established to alleviate the financial strain caused by unexpected medical expenses for individuals and families. The program offers up to $1,000 in short-term financial assistance, helping recipients manage healthcare costs without the burden of immediate out-of-pocket payments. With this support, recipients can focus on their health and education without added financial stress.
Jason Kulpa, founder of The Kulpa Foundation, shared the mission behind the initiative: “No one should have to choose between their health and their future. We created the Kulpa Care Access Program to help bridge the gap for individuals facing difficult medical circumstances. Parker Shubin’s story is a testament to the power of resilience, and we are honored to support him on his journey.”
Parker Shubin’s story is about determination, courage, and triumph over adversity. Diagnosed with a pilocytic astrocytoma brain tumor at just five years old, Parker has endured a total of 19 surgeries—14 of them on his brain—along with over two years of chemotherapy and more than 50 brain MRIs. Despite these overwhelming challenges, Parker has excelled academically, taking Advanced Placement (AP), International Baccalaureate (IB), and college-level coursework throughout high school.
Parker’s leadership extends beyond the classroom. As the Cancer Awareness Club president at Newbury Park High School, he has inspired and educated others by sharing his personal experiences with over 50 club members. Now, as a college freshman at UCLA, Parker plans to major in Neuroscience and minor in Spanish to pursue a healthcare career. He hopes to make the same positive impact on others that his medical team made on him during his journey.
Upon receiving the Kulpa Care Access Scholarship, Parker said, “I am thrilled to have received the Kulpa Care Access Scholarship! These funds will help my family pay for my education at UCLA, where I will be majoring in Neuroscience. The scholarship will also help my family with the ongoing costs of my chemotherapy treatment. I am deeply grateful for the support of the Kulpa Foundation.”
Eligible students are encouraged to apply for various Kulpa Foundation scholarships, including the Kulpa Future Leaders Scholarship, the Kulpa Health Innovations Scholarship, and the Kulpa Care Access Program. All scholarships are designed to provide financial relief and empower students to overcome obstacles as they pursue higher education and personal growth.
