WASHINGTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--20/20 Onsite is proud to announce that, in collaboration with the American Diabetes Association® and Genentech, it will be on-site with its Mobile Vision Clinic to provide free diabetic eye screenings at the 2024 Step Out Walk to Stop Diabetes: DMV at The National Mall, 900 Jefferson Drive, SW, in Washington, DC, on Saturday, September 21, 2024 from 8:00am-2:00pm.
Step Out Walk to Stop Diabetes® is the premier fundraising walk of the American Diabetes Association (ADA), which has taken place at locations nationwide for over 20 years and raised over $150,000,000 towards prevention and finding a cure for diabetes.
The ADA together with support from Genentech and 20/20 Onsite is hosting the mobile eye clinic to provide free eye screenings for underinsured and uninsured attendees. Walk participation is not required for this free screening.
This Eye Health Equity Initiative is aimed to remove barriers to care, to help prevent vision loss by raising awareness about diabetes-related eye diseases and the importance of annual eye exams since studies show 95% of diabetes-related eye disease is preventable with early detection, timely treatment and follow up care.
“20/20 Onsite has a deep commitment to advancing health equity, in line with our mission to expand access to eye care for all,” said Sonali Bloom, CEO of 20/20 Onsite. “Our mobile clinics remove structural barriers to care access, enabling and empowering patients to take care of their eyes and preserve their sight. We are proud to collaborate with the American Diabetes Association to bring diabetic eye screenings to hundreds of Step Out: Walk to Stop Diabetes® attendees.”
The diabetic eye screenings can identify signs of diabetic retinopathy through retinal imaging and color plate testing. Patients may be referred back to the 20/20 Onsite Mobile Vision Clinic for comprehensive diabetic eye exams or to the company’s Optometry Regional Referral Network if any advanced follow-up care is needed.
