NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Madryn Asset Management (“Madryn” or the “Firm”), a leading alternative asset management firm that invests in innovative healthcare companies specializing in unique and transformative products, technologies, and services, today announced that Dr. Rochelle Walensky has joined the Firm as a Senior Advisor.
Dr. Walensky is a highly accomplished and distinguished healthcare professional who possesses extensive experience spanning the public sector and academia. Prior to joining Madryn as a Senior Advisor, Dr. Walensky served as the Director of the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (“CDC”), a $15 billion government agency with over 12,000 employees and country offices in 60 nations around the world. During her time at the CDC, she restructured the agency and led the nation - and the world - through unprecedented times, navigating the darkest days of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Before the CDC, she was Chief of the Division of Infectious Diseases at Massachusetts General Hospital, leading the division in their provision of world-class clinical care and infectious diseases research. Dr. Walensky has also served as a Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School for over a decade, where her research has focused on drug pricing and cost-effectiveness of HIV care.
“Throughout her career, Rochelle has built deep and trusted relationships across the healthcare ecosystem, working closely with policy makers, fellow physicians, and a broad array of business leaders,” said Avinash Amin, MD, Managing Partner at Madryn. “Her depth and breadth of experience and knowledge will be incredibly valuable as we continue to help our portfolio companies scale their businesses and achieve their long-term strategic objectives.”
“I am excited to join Madryn as I transition into the next phase of an incredibly fulfilling career,” said Dr. Walensky. “Remaining on the frontlines of working with the best and brightest minds that are at the forefront of developing unique and transformative products, technologies, and services was important to me when considering where I could add the most value. Madryn is an optimal fit given their focus on partnering with companies that are helping to drive innovation throughout the healthcare industry. I look forward to working closely with Avi and having the opportunity to advise Madryn’s portfolio companies.”
Dr. Walensky is a member of the American Academy of Physicians, National Academy of Medicine and the Council on Foreign Relations. She currently serves on the Board of Trustees at the Doris Duke Foundation and The Carter Center. She received her BA in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from Washington University in St. Louis; her MD from the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine; and her MPH from the Harvard School of Public Health. Dr. Walensky completed her Internal Medicine residency at the Johns Hopkins Hospital and her Infectious Disease fellowship at the Massachusetts General/Brigham and Women’s Hospital combined program.
