Ancora Education® Launches Plumbing Program at Miller-Motte® College in Jacksonville, NC

Program Will be First of Its Kind

JACKSONVILLE, N.C.--()--Ancora Education is thrilled to announce the launch of its first-ever Plumbing program at Miller-Motte College (MMC) in Jacksonville, North Carolina. Enrollment is currently open, and the new program will launch on September 9.

Introducing the Plumbing program at MMC Jacksonville is a significant milestone for both Ancora Education and Miller-Motte College as it is the company’s first-ever campus to launch the program.

Andrea Snow, Senior Vice President and In-House Counsel for Ancora Education, highlighted the launch's importance, stating, "We are incredibly excited about the introduction of our new Plumbing program. Including this new trade in our portfolio was imperative for us to continue supporting our local communities and economies. Providing targeted training so more skilled tradespeople can find gainful employment, we believe benefits students, their families, and employers alike."

Along with their Electrical program, MMC’s Plumbing curriculum is developed by the National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER), a not-for-profit 501(c)(3) education foundation, in conjunction with subject matter experts from across the United States and aligns with other industry-recognized credentials like OSHA 10, AWS SENSE and HVAC Excellence. When students progress through MMC’s courses, they will complete NCCER knowledge based exams and hands-on competencies to earn verifiable industry-recognized credentials that do not expire. Through MMC’s program, students can earn up to five NCCER achievement certificates in as little as 10 months, compared to more traditional employer and/or union based apprenticeships which could take anywhere from two to four years.

As MMC Jacksonville is an NCCER Training Unit, it will be a community leader in bridging the gap between industry needs and available workforce in Jacksonville and the surrounding areas.

“With a focus on growing a skilled workforce based on local needs, Ancora Education has remained committed to providing quality programs with industry-recognized credentials. Based on NCCER’s experience with Ancora, I am confident this program will be a great success not only for the college but, more importantly, the community it serves,” said Jennifer Wilkerson, NCCER Vice-President, Innovation and Advancement.

The Plumbing program will include the following courses:

  • Basic Craft Skills, Tools, Materials and Method
  • Introduction to Plumbing
  • Piping and Valves
  • Installation and Testing
  • Sizing, Venting and Storm Systems
  • Service Plumbing and Sump Pumps
  • Hydronic and Solar Heating, Plumbing Codes
  • Private Water and Waste/Pool and Hot Tubs and Mobile Homes

To celebrate this momentous occasion for Ancora and Miller-Motte College there will be a launch party and ribbon cutting event on Thursday, October 3, 2024 at 3 p.m. Expect a lively program with campus tours, guest speakers, live demonstrations showcasing MMC’s Plumbing and other programs, and the chance to connect with friends and community members. All are welcome.

“Ancora Education’s commitment to workforce development and experience with NCCER looks to meet the need for skilled professionals in North Carolina and beyond,” stated Soo Kang, GM, Pearson Early Career and Professional. “This is an exciting partnership and Pearson is proud to provide the learning experience materials for Ancora Education, Miller-Motte College, and NCCER to succeed together.”

MMC Jacksonville is located near several military bases, including Marine Corps Base Camp LeJeune, Marine Corps Air Station New River, and Fort Liberty, formerly known as Fort Bragg. Given its proximity to these bases, MMC Jacksonville has applied for and received approval by the North Carolina State Approving Agency to offer Veterans education benefits for its Electrical, Medical Clinical Assistant, and CDL Training: Class A Tractor Trailer programs. This approval allocates certain funds for veterans and/or their eligible family members to enroll in these programs.

*The Plumbing program prepares students for entry level careers within the plumbing field such as a service technician. This program does not prepare students to take the plumbing licensing exam. Although the information taught in this program may be helpful, it does not prepare students to become a licensed plumber.
