HIGH POINT, N.C.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Lumos, a leading 100% Fiber-Optic Internet and Total Home Wi-Fi service provider in the Mid-Atlantic, today announced its expansion into the state of Kentucky with a nearly $150 million investment to build over 1,300 miles of its network in parts of Jefferson County and Louisville.
As its first expansion in the state, Lumos will provide opportunities for families and businesses to access fiber internet through scalable plans and options to meet their exact needs, with life-changing speeds and reliable service.
“We are rapidly growing, and this investment in Kentucky represents our commitment to expansion and service in underserved communities,” said Brian Stading, Lumos CEO. “At Lumos, our mission is to ensure communities have the opportunity to access fast and reliable internet, and we’re proud to serve as the first fiber provider in many of the areas we’re expanding into.”
That’s why Lumos is building a 100% Fiber Optic Network for the next 50 years, not the last 50. As society grows more digitally dependent, we can no longer rely on the copper infrastructure built by cable and telephone companies. Fast and reliable internet is no longer an option but a necessity as society continues to learn, work and connect online. Lumos’ unlimited data capacity and speed keep everyone’s devices running without interruption.
“Reliable high-speed internet access is essential to building a community where everyone can succeed,” said Louisville Mayor Craig Greenberg. “We welcome and appreciate Lumos’ important investment into our city and look forward to working with them as they create a more connected Louisville.”
Through Lumos’ 100% Fiber-Optic Internet, the following communities in Louisville and Jefferson County will have access to the internet with equally fast upload and download speeds: Jeffersontown, Saint Matthews, Shively, Lyndon, Middletown, Douglas Hills, Hurstbourne, Prospect, Graymoor-Devondale, Anchorage and other areas in the Louisville Metro.
In addition to the inaugural expansion of its ultra-fast internet into Kentucky, Lumos is excited to welcome Grace Simrall as Kentucky Director of Market Development. Previously, Grace served as the Chief of Civic Innovation and Technology of Louisville Metro Government, where she created the first-of-its-kind unified Communication Services Franchise agreement. During her tenure with the city, Grace led the construction of over 100 linear miles of municipal fiber lighting city buildings, traffic signals, public safety equipment, public Wi-Fi and other public digital infrastructure.
"Grace led Louisville to be the country's most widely recognized civic innovation and technology team," said Lumos' VP of Market Development, Derek Kelly. "She is a champion for digital inclusion, and her work as a trailblazer in Louisville aligns with Lumos' mission to reach the underserved. We are excited to welcome her onboard as we know she will continue to positively impact the communities she serves by bridging the digital divide."
Engineering work in the Louisville Metro will begin in the second half of 2024, and residents will receive communication by mail when engineering and construction begin. To enroll in email updates, please visit http://www.lumosfiber.com/builtforthefuture.
